hey,
i could use some help rebuilding my veg room, and by rebuilding i mean lighting it better.
its a room about 5(w)x5(Lx)7(H) with a water heater in one corner.
currently i have a 400 watt mh and a 400 watt phlizon burple light.
i know squat about leds.
but i know hid , so i keep my 400 watt around 12 inches from the tops of most of my girls, but i am wasting lots of space. cause the lights just dont cover em.
doesnt take long before a few 5 gallon pots have each other pushed from under the lights.
i dont mind spending around 5-600 bucks on a good light.
i dont need it for flower at all.
just the veg room, i see quantum boards and cobs, but i have a disability with numbers and they jumble up, so once i start looking at crees and spectrums, it gets really confusing.
can someone help me out? what am i looking for? just veg, 5 foot by 5 foot room

Personally, if the heat could be managed adequately, I'd go with a 1000W HID lamp. This way, you can use it now for veg with a metal halide bulb, but also use it in flower later on if wanted with a high pressure sodium bulb.

The 400W can be kept as an emergency spare, or thrown in as secondary lighting in your flower area.

It doesn't hurt to veg with an HPS if that's all you have currently. I've done dozens of grows where I used HPS for veg.

A couple of them should do what you need in veg. Grab the 4000k

@princewhat were you looking to spend little buddy?
more worried about coverage than cost, lights are one area i dont cut corners, i dont want to spend hella bank, but am expecting rop around 5-600 , i dont need it for flower at all, as i flower in a seperate room under an amare solar bar8
i have a bro that uses a few cobs i think, they seem to work but he has 4 hanging in his veg, my area is a third larger than his at 5x5 with a 7 foot cieling
lemme go take a few pics brb

That would do a 5x5 veg, really proper.

I just built myself a 2x5 area yesterday for veg. Just waiting on LED 4 foot strips for lighting.
That's a great idea building it with that space underneath for storage or even passive or forced air intake, instead of building from the floor up.

Yup a reservoir and drip tray will go under there. Plus bending over to work on your plants is for the birds.

Try one of these and post your results so we can all see how good they are..

right now its got the 1k watt mh and behind it is the phlizon 400 blurple.
have an ac unit hooked in the window, and a small ceramic heater, both hooked to an inkbird controller.

That's great and I like timber anyhow, I'm really interested in these
For you will want to pick up the 4000k (Color Temperature) diodes with 70 or 80 CRI (Color Rendering Index). I recommend the 80 CRI personally, mostly because it -should- be easier to see leaf color differences.
