help getting started pls

i recently inheritid a light from a friend who has a set up in his basement i have been reading through the post but alot of things dont make sence to me. firs i was wondering if there was a good book i could pick up to better understand what im doing. the light i have is a hortilux nh360htl/en was wondering how many plants i could expect to suport with this thing.
and mayby a basic suply list i would need to get from the green house for the full duration of the grow. i have grown an outside plants when i was in my teens but it got ninjad before the buds could develope. so i have a little understanding about prunning.
my friend also has a hydro set up in his basement someone was suposed to help him complete ive been taking care of but the plants look horrible the leafs are cirling over if that makes sence to anyone. his mister dosnt work on the bottom so he has been watering them from the top everyday there about a foot and a half and i dont know if they will make it if i tried to flower them i prunned the tops 2 days ago and they seem to be comming back to life. the tops look great nice green leafs but the bottom leafs have brown edges.
thanks again to anyone who help i will take pics of those plants when i can grab a digital camera it wont be for a week or so.

hmmm welll I am growing 13 babies with soil and I have been journaling my adventures with my babies. Many on this site have done the same. There are some realy good grow journals here go look them up. I have detailed pics of all mine and the supplies I would be glad to help you out, or maybe one of the more experienced groweers could..................

check the grow faqs on this site it has some decent info.....tell you friend to scrap the hydro set if he aint gonna fix the mister....
