I agree number 1 mistake is not having a water test done and not recognizing the variable ec readings from cold and hot taps. The descaler water was charging my salt and binding calcium. The clue was the salt in the bottom of the bucket when I changed it out. I had both lowered ppm and ph by draining 1 of 3.5 gallons in my bucket and replacing with the distilled. After I saw it I put it under a scope and it is a chrystal.
After that I remembered chem lab where we changed states of salts with electrical charges. solution/crystal/solution. The more reactive salts we could get them to sublimate from frozen to gas with no pause at solution.
God that was so long ago .........
