HELP!! Algae or root rot...lots of pics

Hey all, I have 3 Ak47 and 3 og kush clones (they were 7 days old when I got them) that I've had for about ten days. I run dwc and use FF grow big and my biggest problem was my plants were growing the first seven days in a see through light green res and lid, exposing my roots to HPS 400w light 24/7, I'm sure thats why I'm having this dark green algae looking stuff on my roots but I need to get rid of it! We made a new res 3 days ago (black and dark grey) but the roots look worse than they did before! They were light brown before we switched to the new res. Someone told me use h202 and I did an hour ago, but I've been reading about SM-90 and am thinking this will help. I'm thinking in the morning I will get some of this sm90, clean my res really good and rinse off the roots and net pots also (the hydroton in the pots are yucky too) and put new water in. I don't want to shock these babies too much, but I will do anything to fix this! Help!!! Any advice is appreciated =)P3270028.jpgP3270015.jpgP3270016.jpgP3270017.jpgP3270019.jpgP3270021.jpgP3270024.jpg

i dont think h2o2 is going to help and it may be too far gone for anything else. I would get a bathtub of cool water and add some h2o2, not a lot and gently play with the roots under the water trying to clean them off without damaging them any further.

me, personally, i would start over. even if the roots come clean the plants themselves arent going to be very happy and more than likely will die in a few weeks.

Thanks for the advice, but I am going to try to solve this. I have read a lot of things saying that if you catch an algae problem early enough, you can fix it, which like I said this happened over night. I have to try, I paid $90 for the clones and have only had them 10 days, huge mistake making a new system that was see through!! lol but my other system is being used. Anyway, my hubby just pointed out something that looks good to me, we are sprouting new roots on all the plants and they are nice and healthy and white so I am going to at least try to clean everything up and try to make it work and maybe use some of that sm90. Wish us luck! =)

Physan 20, 1ml per 15 gallons let set for three days, then inoculate with beneficial microbes, OR go the sterile route.
BTW I am having a give away contest over in toke n talk for a free ezcloner, and also down under HF which is a bad ass root zone product. best wishes. hit me up by pm if you ever need anything.

Kind of on a budget so after talking to my buddy at the grow store she advised me to use hygrolyze and we cleaned and sterilized everything and used the hygrolyze stuff and in a few hours everything cleared up and looked beautiful, nice white healthy roots. well it looked like that for 2 days and now we noticed the stuff coming back. After looking at it under a regular light I can now tell it is a brown algae thanks to the light my roots were exposed to for almost 7 days. Anyway, we did the cleaning and sterilizing thing and treatment again today, just wondering if I should get rid of these? I would like to at least get something from the $90 we spent on the clones...I don't want it to get us sick or anything from smoking it lol we may just get rid of them and start fresh. any advice on a possibility of this going away? Thanks!! =)

Hygrozyme** I don't know why I said hygrolyze lol oops. I think I want to try that physan 20 but does anyone have any experience with that? I just read a couple posts that said just putting a small amount in a system for an hour killed all their plants so I am quite paranoid to use that shit, but I want to try and salvage these babies. Thanks!!

hygrozyme is one of the worst products ever made for dwc, rdwc...
If you read that thread over at the mag I linked you to you will see the correlation between brownslime and using igrowslime(hygrozyme).
Keep the zymes out of your reservoir< PERIOD!!!!!! your friend at the grow store is giving you some real bad advice...
Its easy to read for someone to read a bottle and say "yeah this will be great for you" when they have NO experience at all using that product or growing the way you are growing...

I am soooo pissed someone gave you such horrible advice, hope you are able to recovery from the hygrozyme...

If you don't have any more clones, you could probably take a clone of each one off the plants you have. If your roots don't come back then you have some back up clones...

this was a great learning experience on many aspects for you.. what are you going to do from here on out is the question I was wondering.
you going to try and make the ladies work, try clone them? buy different clones, transplant them?

Your pictures were a little blury and I was not positive you had the brown algae that is why I referred you over to that thread so you could check the pics out first hand.

If you do have the brown algae, you could always just transplant those ladies into coco, which would take care of that problem(burry the netpot and all)

The physan kills all algae, bacteria, fungi, etc.... but depending on how the roots look sometimes its not worth the battle...

Make sure to wear some gloves and protective glasses if you use it, I like to just dose at 1ml per 15 gallons, after several days the chemicals break down into nitrogen and are no longer something you have to worry about, but do use caution when handeling it right out of the bottle.. Although in the grand scheme of things the amount we are using is pretty minimal :)

...

couple cool quotes..

Thanks! I was wanting to salvage them, but I've wasted so much nutes and time. I didn't even think to put them into dirt or coco, thats a great idea! I have never grown with coco so I don't know much about it. Do you think the plants would do well if I just planted them in pots with soil or coco even with the brown algae? I think I will look into the coco and see what thats all about. Thanks again, you really know your shit and I appreciate you taking the time to help out a newbie! My hubby says thanks too!! =) Experience is one of my most favorite adventures of life!

If it was me, but in your shoes..
i would put 4 or 5 plants in soil or coco.. keep the other one or two in hydro and get some more experience with hydro:)

I personally love hydro, mainly dwc and rdc.
will never go back to anything else... but some folks run screaming the other way from hydro...
