Help - 2 months into flowering, tiny buds - pics

Hi, this is my first grow. Two months into flowering and getting concerned. The pistils are just starting to turn reddish but the buds are not bulking up. Is there anything I can do to fill them out at this stage? Any thoughts/assistance appreciated.

I'm using a 400 watt HID system bought from htgsupply.com. Two bulbs (400w MH and 400w HPS) that use the same ballast. I switched to the HPS when I went to 12/12. The MH bulb is good (they vegged very well) but dunno about the quality of the HPS bulb. Apparently it's made special for htgsupply. Should the buds be much larger than this when the pistils first start to change color? I've read that they bulk up a lot in the last week or two?

Here's a couple of pics that look slightly better than the others-

They look like they should have a bit more growing to go. Your light should be fine. Keep it about 18" away from the plants. You can try to put it closer, just do it in steps. The HPS bulb is supposed to put out more lumens than a MH bulb of the same wattage. Yea they do look a bit small? When the hairs are 2/3 reddish then its time to harvest. Other than that make sure your following a nutrient schedule and feeding them properly. There is still time for them to bulk up.

dude. TWO MONTHS!

to the original poster - have these plants been on 12/12 for two months straight? if so, there is definitely something wrong with that picture.

Wow, that is small I am have been flowering using an Ecolight 250W. It's been under 12/12 since April 11 so not even a full month.

Yes, but WHAT? All I can find that causes buds not to develop is PH problems and root-boundness and neither of those are going on. Any ideas?

How long did it take for them to show sex? If it took a while it might just take a little longer than normal for them to finish. What strain? With Bag-seed its hard to tell how long the plant needs. Something is definitely going on if those have been flowering for 8 weeks already.

If he is growing a Sativa strain it can take over 100 days to finish flowering. Also assuming your giving them what they need to grow just give them more time.

The strain is White Rhino (from Nirvana-seeds). Yeah, it did take a long time for them to show sex. The males took about a week and the females about 2.5 weeks. The pistils didn't really start growing all over till about a month into flowering. Maybe it's just that the plants are large and it takes more time for nutes to travel through the system. Grasping at straws :-?

well, Puff, I'll take your word for it, as it sounds like he's doing everything right ... 2.5 weeks is quite a long time to show sex I guess.

This is me at about 3 weeks under 252W fluoros, just added 150W HPS, so you can imagine my surprise.

Youll know they will be ready for harvest when 2/3rds of the hairs turn amber in color. Lots of things can stunt the development of the plants. I stopped counting the days on my garden a while ago. Just go by the plants they will tell you when there ready.

I agree. The number of days just gives a rough idea, but every plant is different. Sativas can definitely take alot more time. I have one that didnt even show sex till 3 wks into flower.

Looking good, I cant wait until I have a few plants at that stage. I just transplanted my first batch of female clones. I had to grow 6 freaking plants to get one good female. But that's all you need for clones, 1 good female.

yessir. then raid her. i've got 15 or so clones to go once these girls are done. an F2, a new strain seedling, and all the rest chips off the old mom. now if only the tiny seeds i pulled out of my white widow eighth from the dispensary would pop ...
