Hello Michigan

So, Summers like Panama with mosquitoes as big as choppers, and Winters like Siberia? No hope for an income North of Detroit, and cops that hate all non-cops in the entire state?

Summers anywhere near the lake aren't that hot in the U.P., actually rarely see anything in the 90's. Basically, NO summers aren't hot there! Long winters here are ideal for indoor plants. I agree with panhead that you can find good affordable rural property in lower MI with better chances at regular work. lots of ppl grab a cheap cabin in the U.P. for summers up there. Just depends if you need that Alaskan experience for the best 4 months of the year, or all year long. Personally, I'd prefer to not have to manage the winters up there. Generally much less snowfall in lower mi.

Dont forget about the nuclear waste dump sites and active plants with minimal maintenance performed.
THIS, this is what I am looking for! +rep

and thanks, Abe, for blowing hope back into my noggin. We look forward to snow, it's the heat that scares me.

Your post #24 and the map- zoom in and see that some areas are even warmer than the green west cost of MI... The yellow areas are 6A and 6B - doesn't get as cold in deep winter.

You might want to think about the reduced daylight situation, too. I live near the Ohio border, and at this time of year sunset is around 5pm and sunrise is around 8am. The sun never gets overhead, just wheels around the horizon. I think we lose another hour or so of daylight by the time we hit the winter solstice and days start getting longer again.

How many hours of daylight are there in the UP during the winter?
