Hebrew's First Official Grow!

ok so been looking around this site and a few others since i started my grow nov.2nd...just learning all i could....taking it all in(or trying to!)...now I've decided to share. So pretty much its a joint venture with a friend of mine. Check out the situation: He supplied everything; I provided the location...my basement! Oh and I'm their caretaker...I check in with him once in a while but thats it! I'm working with a 1000 watt Eye Hortilux Super HPS...plus have a 400 watt hps, but no bulb...and since he only brought two clones....for now just using the 1000 watt. So he shows up with all that...plus inline fans and ducting and a box of fertilizers(all the good companies) and just rigs the 1000 watt up to some shelves in this storage room in the basement....well I got the room much better situated now...I hung light from the ceiling, got a hygrometer/thermometer, have a fan blowing up at the plants and another blowing across light flanges to exhaust out door(which has a mesh "window" cut into it- its really weird this room...i think its where the previous owners locked up their dogs when they were gone....or their prey!! One clone was very very tiny like maybe a week old...it was in a solo cup...nicknamed "little"...and the other..nicknamed "big" was already looking good..was in a boss coco bag...was maybe 5 or six inches with several leaves...whilst "little" was maybe 3 inches. As far as the medium in both ...im not sure...and the strains? not sure...im told they are both indica-sativa mixes...but "little" has broad leaves and is stocky..looking more indica, and "big" is more lengthy with narrower leaves. Anyways so he rigged up the setup(pretty shitty job) and told me to transplant little as soon as possible and might as well do "big" as well. Well didnt get to the grow shop for several weeks...by then "little" was looking dead...no new growth and all yellow and "big wasnt that much healthier looking....Think was combo....heat stress cause light was like 15" away( and plants were on ground...so was really cooking under the light!), root bound, and lack of ventilation(fans)..well had fan on for a few days but was still warm out so basement was hotter. So I got some FF Ocean forest and two 3 gallon pots w/ saucers. transplanted both. Within a few days "little" looked like someone striped the leaves with a green paint....growth started and bam! back from the dead! "big" loved it as well and right after I hung the light properly; its about 5 feet off the ground and i put "little" on some books so as to even the canopy...the light is now like 25" above canopy, and I have plants raised on tupperware bin (well "little" is on a few phone books too ). Like i said fan blowing up across plants and one blowing across light out door window.....I'll sum this up in a list in my next post...this is a bit of a ramble i know, but I've been growing for a month or so and have a lot to catch up on!:bigjoint:

Ok so after transplanting, both plants loved it. When I got my thermometer/hygrometer I ran into a little problem. My relative humidity was on the lower side of alright. about 25 average during the day, i'd say. Well this was weeks into the grow, and like they say if it ain't broke- don't fix it. I know it should be higher in veg...perfect for flowering though. Plants are doing quite well, so for now I'm just gonna roll with it. Temps are good...as my last post shows. I topped Big about two weeks ago...very interesting....since the clones were already mature, they were alternating nodes from the jump...I've searched everywhere for info on topping mature plants...no luck...seems when you top a mature lady, instead of the main stem growing new shoots to form a Y the growth hormones go to the branch right below the topping cut and the one below that....forming the Y atleast thats what it appears to be doing....anybody know anything about this? Oh yea...feel free to post in my journal. I'm going to try and get some pics up here soon as well.

Ok thanks to this site i was told that, yes, indeed those two braches will become the tops. nice.

Topped Lil at like 8th or 9th node( hard to tell cause so tightly formed lower down!)...actually pinched!! Shes still about 7". Big is around 16-17"..depends on what time of day I measure em!! Seem to stretch up in the morning and settle down in the evening before lights out.

I also noticed my humidity was down to like 20-22%. 75 degrees. With box fan blowing up across both plants.....so I turned off that fan....humidity rose to 30% and temp up to 77 degrees! I think I'll take the 2 degrees of temp for that much more humidity....i have other fan up next to light exhausting through window in door so creates a negative pressure in the room pulling fresher air in from outside the room. I repositioned box fan to blow air off wall and just create airflow(may turn on for a few hours a day when i get home...) as opposed to blowing directly on the plants for the whole light period.......See how the ladies handle it........temps havent got hotter than 79 degrees in a while so should be fine....

Ok yea so that grow didnt continue.....anyways got a new grow goin....so pretty good bagseed....got 13 goin....had in 16 oz. cups for about a month(germs planted in soil on 5/29), until i could afford pots/soil. Transplanted last Thursday/early Friday(6/25) into 1.5 gallon pots filled with 1 gallon soil each. 400 watt hps about 24" off tops as of now; after transplant raised from 18" to 24" to focus on root growth for about a week then i may drop back down to 18". Started nutes about week or so ago...Grow Big for now....had some dead, yellowed lower leaves-removed them(think from being in cups too long). Tallest is 12" already, think shortest is around 8-9". I'm gonna let veg maybe another 2-3 weeks then switch to 12/12. For soil im using a 1/2 gallon FFOF per pot and 1/2 gallon Garden Magic Potting Soil(peat, sand, perlite). Were all started in FFOF in the 16 oz cups. My range on temps is about 70-84. Humidity range is like 31%-60%(60 at night wit lights off). Have a fan blowing up and across light...and another fan blowing from left to right across plants...this fan stays on 24/7, other fan on timer with lights 18/6. Probably be watering every 3-4 days depending on need. Nutes with every other watering. Guess thats it for now...Ill try and get some pics up on here soon.

Dam they growing!!! They've almost doubled in height since the transplant about a week and a half ago. Got the light down to 11" off the tallest, but got a little leaf curling so I raised up to 15" off the tallest. Everything going pretty smoothly. PATIENCE IS KEY HERE! I think based on the explosive growth, time to switch to 12/12, because with the stretch they gonna be going through...they gonna be big!!! Just started 6th week on saturday 7/2... I added big bloom to the grow big last feeding on 7/4. They seem to be loving it!!! Roots are also coming out the drainage holes in the pots...but they soaking all the water up quick in the saucers(styrofaom plates cause of cold concrete floor)...so I'm just gonna roll with it. I know you're not supposed to let them sit in runoff....but they drinkin it up so fast...so I'm not sweating it. They're all looking pretty healthy, so I'm not changing anything. Keepin it simple.

ok so last night after lights out, I switched the timer to 12/12. Got my nutes up to every watering now...just following Fox Farms feeding schedule...figure they know whats up. The small fan I had blowing up at the light died a few days ago...so I got a 12" oscillating fan now. So box fan on left side of room blowing air up at 45 degrees, and on right side, the oscillating fan pointed up at light(which also gives a nice breeze to the canopy). Temps looking good. Humidity decent. Nice branching has started over last few days....originally I was going to take cuttings, but this is just good bagseed, and since it's my first whole grow cycle...I think I'll just focus on this crop for now. Next grow should be with some good quality seeds of a known strain...I hope...we'll see...ordering seeds kinda scares me!!!

Yea I know been a lil lazy gettin the pics I will admit!:blsmoke:

I'm really gonna try to get some tonight...since there's no work to be done in the grow room today!! I need to though, because I flipped the switch after lights out, so I need some pics now- before they flower!

As i was.....I've been thinkin...and I think I'm going to revert back to the nutes every other watering. I've only fed twice in a row at this point, so no harm. I don't want salt build up or nute lock out, so a nice watering between feedings should help me achieve this. I have to remind myself to keep it simple!!

To coincide with hitting the switch(12/12), I actually got around to taking some pics. Noticed several leaves near light "twisting"...lights at 14-15" off tallest...will raise lights tomorrow if still doing that.....but I'm stoked for this phase; flowering that is.:eyesmoke:

Left light where it is...actually now 13" off tallest...think that slight leaf curl was from fan on plants...they just adjusting to the wind its new to them! Tallest is 23" and shortest is 14". Watered with just water today...most plants have 10 or 11 nodes...most up to 9 fingers on leaves...if not 9 then 8 or 7! I need to get me so flat white paint and slop that shit on the walls for the refective effect. Looking good all in all...

ok so since the plants are getting so big, i've adjusted my water schedule to every 2 1/2 days instead of 3. This morning I followed the Fox Farms feeding schedule....some big bloom, tiger bloom, and open sesame. Everything looking great! Day 6 of flowering...

Oh yea- light is 11" off tallest...they're loving it! No signs of heat stress or anything....that oscillating fan really keeps the temps down under the light.....good stuff!!

ok so when i went home yesterday the plant directly under the light was showing a little heat stress...edges of leaves curling up...so I raised the lights a few inches...13" off tallest now(was at 9"). This morning the top of that plant was bent over slightly...thinking was trying to get away from heat from yesterday...should be fine though... A few are showing their sex...so far I can confirm 3 females and 5 males. That leaves 5 undetermined as of now. Man I really want to end up with 6 females...would fill out nice below my 400 watter. Guess I'll have to wait and see!!! Ya really thinking feminised seeds from a good seed bank next round......also took measurements of plants...tallest is 26" and smallest is 19".

ok so I pulled all the males just now...I'm down to 5 females and one undecided. WOW! Def thinned out the grow room!! More room to grow!! Watering tonight with plain water.
