Heat Wave, can i run my 400/250 watt ballast on 250 with 4002 bulb?

So its super hot right now and i cant get my temps down. I have a duel HPS ballast that does 250w or 400w but all i have are 400w bulbs. Simple, is it safe to run my 400w bulb in a ballast set to 250?

I run my 250w bulbs at 150w all the time (for years now). I have an adjustable lumatek 150/175/250/SL I think you're supposed to shut the ballast off before switching wattages though....at least I always do.

I dunno for sure if your ballast works the same as my adjustable one....you might be able to find out in the datasheet maybe?

It should work fine. My 400 watt ballast dims to 200w which I use qhen it's to hot and it works fine with my 400 watt hips bulb
