heat issues

Red shaded? Plants don't see colors like we do. All a red shade will do it block out some of the lumens lol.
some one asked what kind of bulb I have.told them.then some one else asked me if it was red,as though it were significant.I didn't think it could effect color spectrum, but I'll be the first to admit that I don't know shit about that sorta thing.

Red as in the nanometers not the visible color. Red is about 550 nanometers(nm). They appear red/orange when turned on. Blue is in the 200-300s and appear blue when turned on. It's a more specific way of saying 2700k(red spectrum) and 6500k(blue spectrum).

Which is preferable?

Red for flowering, blue for vegging. You want a 3:1 ratio (i.e three 6500k for every one 2700k for veg and vice versa for flowering) if possible. Don't cheap out and think a 4500-5000k spectrum bulb is the same thing, just get the extremes.

I think I already screwed the pooch.Nothin personal(haha). My lack of knowledge & my gizmo are fucking me to tears.I knew I needed a HPS,thought wattage was all that mattered.Damn it.I've got a 150w bulb in a fixture that is 660w/125v,and the bulb wont come on.Are there special fixtures for these things.

150w HID light? Yes, they need specific fixtures. If you somehow managed to get it in a regular socket not only could you cause a fire, but likely break your bulb. What made you want to use your "gizmo" instead the normal setups people have?

mighty f I were you I would unplug three of those bar lights. you will still have plenty of light. build your room and get a ballast. set upthe right way. you may be able to use the gizmo to veg and your room to flower.

I was just beginning to think the same thing.I went off half cocked.I figured indoor couldn't be that much harder than out door. Before the lights come on the gizmo is jet black.Looks stealthy.Didn't occur to me to turn it on before I put seedlings in.I know, its stupid:wall:.Had too much faith in the gizmo.seen adds for 10+ years, thought it would do everything for me I guess. The socket is for the 25W MH but has much higher rating, thought it was meant for sodium bulb.I didn't start researching until I really put my foot in it.I thought weeds were hard to kill not hard to grow.now I know.

It's more like you put too much thought into this. Keep It Simple Stupid. All you really need is a 6 pack of CFLs, a 1 gallon pot, some premium soil(Fox Farm, Roots organic, etc) and boom weed.

this weed is easy to kill. easy to grow when your set up right. I am so far into my first grow that it feels like i will never harvest. when your on a budget you have to buy the impotant things first then the things that are good to use. and when you get the wrong product (been there) you feel like kicking yourself in the face.:wall: things like your gizmo are designed for vegtables, when you get your room built use that for something else. today I am building my second room for veging in.

I'm pickin up what you guys are puttin down.I've been so focused on making up for lost time that i've spread myself to thin to really concentrate on anything. It's been disheartening, but its also allowed me to come up with a more realistic plan.temp. has become less of an issue since switching to 18/6.i'm gonna make a make shift box for flowering and use that to teach myself about venting and lights.Probably do a couple of grows this way to get my sea legs. Then I'll decide what kind of set up is best for me.alot of options out there.I saw some pics of slipon's set up on another thread,he's got his shit together. But i've come to realise that I need to take baby steps to approach that level.Rome wasn't built in a day & neither are grow boxes. You learn best from mistakes,so i'll be a fuckin genius before too long;-).I figure my gizmo will be adequit for veg. until I learn more.temp. stays around 80,gets up around 85 at the end, good enough to veg. I figure.

yea keep it simple ..

if you trow in a lot of stuff and you get problems you never know what is the curse ..

add stuff as you get your "sea legs"

can easily start as I did with some small T5 fixture or CLF

and build a small cheap box with some cheap diy out take and some more light for flowering once the plants are bigger ..

take it easy and enjoy it as you learn ..

I hope to see you in a month or two .. with a nice small stelth carbint full of flowering plants with no heat, noise or smell problems ..

I removed 3 of the 6 lights from my gizmo & it hasn't made much of a difference with the temp.Does that make any sense?Spent some time at home depot pricing things.Having a hell of a time finding a socket for this HPS.The socket has to have the same wattage as the bulb, right?saw plenty of 150w fixtures, but nothing mentioned HPS.Its looking like I'm gonna have to buy an outside light fixture & gut it,or find a better hardware store.

you do know how a HPS work ... right ?

you will need a ballast to make the bulb work .. or it wont work .. or burn down your place ..

a good balast can cost from 100$ and up .. beside that you will need a socket .. some wireing with (safty build in) and some kind of hood/refletor would also be a good idea ..

but actualy with heat problems you schould look in to some ventilation before you look at HDI lamps ..

or may I sugges you buy a lamp kit with cool tube and forget about that 150W bulb

also .. can I ask you .. what is the temp inside and out side the grow room ?

No,I don't know how they work. It's considered an outside bulb,so I figured if you had the right type of fixture,it would be taken care of.Guess I was wrong.I was looking into the ventalation,it was the purpose of my trip.I was just checking other prices while I was there.I'm on a tight budget,so I don't see a 100$ ballast in my near future.Would it be worth the trouble to flower them without HPS?

I put my thermometer outside the gizmo.Temp was 86-88 inside,76-78 outside. That drop took about 15 mins.,Feels cooler than that though.I'm trying to avoid buying a bunch of stuff I can't re-use in my future box.I plan to gut the gizmo for its lights and fixtures when the time comes.I'm a sheet metal worker, but I'm not the kind that does duct,at least not for houses.I'm confident I can build a vent. system without too much trouble.I'm definately gonna have to research the lighting better.Thanx for humoring me though.

yea HPS is also used as out side light.. in many citys as street light ... same one we use for growing ..

but they also have a inbuild ballast to work ..

even T5/T8 tubes must have a ballst to work .. CLF to .. if its not inbuild in the bulb ...

I have a boot light .. wher the tube acctualy sticks out of the ballast ..

its like 1½ foot long and weight is like 18KG .. a lot of copper wires inside to make the right watt for my bulb (digital ballst is to prefere but also more expensiv)

you need a out side lamp for that bulb .. or a ballast and a socket to match ..

I would maybe consider to look up a 150W HPS lamp kit on ebay .. and keep the bulb you have for as spare bulb (need to changes it atlest once a year to keep good light anyway)

I reccon you can get that for less then 100$

or as I said go for the good digital ballast 100$ ...and maybe a 400w MH/HPS lamp kit with a cool tube .. but then we are talking +300$ I reccon ..

do some research ...

yea you need your out side temps inside so to speak :)

or atlest get it to drop a few ..

80F or less would be perfect .. I runn 82F and its seems ok .. but Im working to get that down .. and its also summer here now .. so wont get worse ...

my 4"/100mm canal ventilation is not enough .. need atlest a number bigger (125mm)

KOMPLET_UDSUGNIN_4e064afd41bd7_200x200.jpg

it clear my room in less then 3 minuts .. but with the carbon filter on .. its more like 5 .. need a bit stronger ventilation (will use the old one .. on low .. as intake to pull fresh air in from my outside ventilation canal)

but what this did .. was lowering my temps from +90ish to around 84F .. did add a tube to the out side intake and a small bathroom fan to pull fresh/cold air in .. and a big table fan pointet at my 600W HPS .. that make it drop to 80-82F (fist few hrs its more like 78F then 80F .. last hrs it can be 84F on hot days but mostly 82F) seems ok .. but looking forword to got from 187M3/hr to 290M3/hr with stronger intake aswell (145M3 on low)

just to give you a pictur of what other Ppl. do to keep temps down ..

work on it :) and Np. glad to humoring you :D
