Heat Issues

it depends on your grow system i have a closet grow and and need an ac

i have used a window ac before in other grows it was a 5200 btu it cooled a 4x8 grow in a garage with tempsin the garage of 110+ the grow room never got higher then 75
i had an old sun light 1000wt non aircooled

used same ac in another garage this one was 10x10 with same light.we were able to cut out a out in the wall for the ac so it didnt have to work so hard with the heat it.

now i have an air cooled hood light system

i agree it depends on your setup. the cheap and most efficient way is to have air cooled hood and exhaust them away from the grow room. this removes the heat directly from the source and works great so long as your ambient temps are in the right ranges. say your room is 85-90 with the light off then yeah i would get an ac. if it is more like 65-75 with the lights off and when the light goes on it get in the upper 90s then you only need to cool the source of the heat. also a inline fan will be much cheaper to run than an ac.
 
i have a 4in exhaust fan and a bathroom extractor fan trying to get the heat out but still wont go down, last read was max temp 106.5f and min temp 73.6f its killing my plants, i currnetly only have 5 left out 8, im gutted
 
do you have an air cooled reflector? what size is your light? where are you exhausting the heat to? do you have any circulating fans? do you have a fresh air intake?

no air cooled reflector, light is 600w hps, exhausting heat out of slightly opened window 1 desktop oscillating fan and 1 large oscillating fan, dont have fresh air intake, the air intake comes from in the bedroom, i have tried switching the bathroom fan round to bring fresh air from outside but that didnt work,

i had to leave the complete system off over night (no light or fans on) and the min temp still didnt go under 73.6f
 
if your temps are 73 with lights off then a coolshade will work just have a good inline fan sucking the heat away and your room should sit at 78 at most! also a freshair intake will reduce this more but 78 is perfect, 6 inch 450 cfm inline fan will do the job nicely, also the fan will probly only be 100 watts, compared to the ac at 6-7-8-900 watts! you could run another 600 light and fan for cheaper than aircon!
 
whats the cfm on the 4 inch? you could try it, just buy the coolshade but you might need the reducers for the ducting, it might work, ive got a 5 inch 180 cfm on one of my 400 and it work great, also i would go with the coolshade thats got the flat glass rather than the rounded cooltubes.

nice one you just answered my next question about shade vs tube

i think the cfm, is around the 170 mark

i didnt know you could get a 5 inch fan
 
mine one of those vents tt125s fans, not my main fan it was used for intake on another grow and thought i would try it on the 400 b4 i bought another 6" and glad i did, like i say you could give it a try b4 spending $ on another fan, if not worse case scinario you could use it for intake and the 6" for the light! still way cheaper than the price of aircon + the cost to run the ac

p.s my room sits at 71 with lights off and sits at no higher than 80 with lights on, even the heat wave we had never pushed it higher than 90, with a bigger 6" fan i could bring that down much further,
 
If you have room for an AC then you should put one in there. No dout keeping temps n check will lower stress on the plants.
 
cheers reverof, id settled on getting a coolshade now you got me thinking again and my brain hurts from all the thinking ive done over the past few weeks, lol
 
coolshades make a huge difference! trust me! your lights off temps are not high even if the room heats up 8 degrees with coolshade your still golden, with the decent fan all the heat from bulb is sucked out of room, so the room wont heat up much!

i am searching ebay for a cool shade now,thought i could find a cheap one, but they are all dearer than my local hydro shop,lol ,so will prob get one from there as i have it as soon as pay for it, whats a good price for a cool shade, have found one for £55
 
go 6 inch!
get a xtrasun 6 its a inexpensive quality hood and air tight for better cooling($85
next get a valuline 6 inch centrifugal fan ($100
an eco fan 16 in wall mouneted fan for circulation ($30
and then 6 inch ducting (15+ depending on what quality you want

i prob will go 6 in exhaust, but as robsterb said might as well try the 4 inch one as i already have that
