HB's 2nd Run: COB LED + Kessil w/ Grape Stomper OG

Dude, come to think of it, I've had the exact same thing happen to me. Those tops are due to either a light leak re-vegging the plant or an abnormal nutrient. I only use salt-based nutrients (jacks) and this one run of GG4 I did a while back, I had leftover advanced nutrients sensi a&b so I did one feeding late in flower with those and got funky re-vegged tops like that. Looking into it, advanced nutrients puts plant growth promotion factors in their nutes which weren't present up until that point that caused the re-veg. I don't know what was in your soil mix, but the plants probably avoided the promotion factor until late in flower and picked it up near the end (a lot of commercial soil mixes also contain PGPFs). Exact same look to the tops, single leaf weird stretchy guys, I'm sure that's what happened. I would highly recommend using coco and jack's 3-2-1 if you want to avoid those problems in the future. Also, that's why everything you grow with advanced nutrients has a bud structure like blue dream.

Interesting! I'm all organics, so I don't plan on using any salt based nutes. But, the recipe for that soil was a pretty basic take on Subcools recipe, it just wasn't too hot when I used it (I hadn't planned on using it, but didn't feel like waiting till the next day to pick up more FFOH for 1.5 plants. Come to think of it, I did use a Sprouted Seed Tea right at the start of flower, think that could have helped too?

Edit: I've gotta say though, I just got some clones from a friend and he uses coco and some sort of synth, and the stems were already way thicker than I'd seen at that size, so I'm going to do a new batch of soil with a slightly different recipe that incorporates a lot of coco in the mix. Probably a 50/50 coco/peat blend.

And holy shit, do my hands smell like sour grapes. I just took those two into a small tent I plan on using for mothers and put one of my light rails in there. The trichs have gone milky on everything else... I'm letting this day cycle run and leaving 24-36 hours of darkness, and chopping down Wed evening! I had a couple branches break on me as I was freeing those two from the trellis, so those are hanging up, maybe they'll be smoke ready friday?

HARVEST!!

So, I learned that these trichs stay milky for a couple of days, and I probably should have let these go another day or so... But I had already cut the trellis and lost the support structure for most of the plants, thinking I was done. Doh. I couldn't stake up all these massive arms easily enough, so, live and learn. My associate has another pheno of this that he says is even chunkier and sweeter. I reckon I'll give that a shot. Anyhow, without further ado, here are some pics, after a day in darkness.

Sorry to see the def. in your grow brotha...but it still looks like they turned out ok! Have you ever used roots Organics original soil? That stuff is gold right out the bag! Made a crazy difference when I switched from FFHF

Yeah, but I found this product called RECHARGE. Big bennie blend that's supposed to fix any nutrient lockout fast.

http://www.realgrowers.com/product/recharge/

But the other 4 that were in 30~% FFOH did pretty great. The biggest one was the one in the middle right of the room, she did 5oz + a bunch of concentrate-worthy larf. The other 2 are in a tent right now, I'm going to let them go until I see amber. They're doing pretty good, but there are still a couple parts of the plants that didn't end up developing at all. Still will be able to get another 5+ oz minimum between them though, I think. The smell is really pungent, easy to see why they call it the sour grapes. It has the strong, NY Diesel/Chem fuel notes and taste with a sweet sugary grape. Leads with the grape, settles on the fuel. SUPER POTENT. Great smoke, smooth with signature kush expansion in the lungs. Leaves a mixed taste of sugar and fuel on the palate. Two hits from a bubbler and I'm daydreaming. Highly recommend this strain.

The lockout sucked, for sure, though. I've not checked out the Roots Organic soil, I'm about to do some shopping and use this recipe that a friend gave me that looks really really involved. I don't think I'll be able to source all the ingredients in it, but I've got a line on most of them. Then I'm going to try a run using the Dragonfly Earth Medicine line. I've been doing a bit of research, and it seems pretty well formulated. I'm also making a modified Octopot for the next 4 (2 Wifi OG 2 Headband). Just pushing those through so I can get a nice 6 week veg on the run behind it, which will be 6 or 8 WiFi OG. This pheno that my buddy gave me is straight jet fuel.

Hey just to let you guys know, I'm doing a free seed run for LED users. Crosses so far are as follows:

Dr. Who x (Wifi Alien x GG#4)
Dr. Who x (Old Time Moonshine x Indiana Bubblegum)
(Kosher Tangie x Cherry Pie) x (Wifi Alien x GG#4)
(Kosher Tangie x Cherrie Pie) x (Old Time Moonshine x Indiana Bubblegum)
(Alien bubba x super skunk x blueberry) x (Wifi Alien x GG#4)
(Alien bubba x super skunk x blueberry) x (Old Time Moonshine x Indiana Bubblegum)
Durban f1 x (Wifi Alien x GG#4)
Durban f1 x (Old Time Moonshine x Indiana Bubblegum)
(Old Time Moonshine x Indiana Bubblegum) x (Wifi Alien x GG#4)
(OTM x IB) x (OTM x IB)

Got some serious flame, the Kosher Tangie x Cherry Pie mother is a reinvented Cookies that finishes in under 50 days and tastes like sour new-car. Here's a Dr. Who cola (first) and an Alien blueberry cross (second) and the kosher tangie (third).

Pollen chucking is just getting under way, should be another month before everything's dried and separated, but definitely follow me here and I'll send out information for the giveaway in a few weeks. Must provide proof of DIY cob usage (or just be a known user here I'm not a dick).

This should be a really good run, I have some real old ladies and some real young, strapping lads I'm using as donors. Plenty of hybrid vigor, and my genetics are second to none. It would be such an honor to have you guys running my lines, I don't have the means to start a seed company right now but I am a very careful and observant breeder and I don't think anyone will be disappointed with my latest work.

Oh man, I'm all about it. I'm finally gaining the confidence to start popping seeds. Based on my overwhelming success cutting clones for my first time, I think I can figure out how to sex some plants. I'm interested in the KTxCP/ OTMxIBG or the OTMxIBG/Wifi AlienxGG4. That alien blue looks like a chunker, too.

Dude, if you can't sex a plant, you are too dumb to still be alive (you're reading this, so you're qualified). Trust me, there's nothing to it, if it has balls, it's a dude. The hardest part is not being a total spaz and culling too early, sometimes anthers look like female pre-flowers and visa-versa. They're like an elephant though if you know what a female plane looks like, hard to describe but you know exactly what it is when you see one.

Yeah man, those Alien crosses bulk like crazy, I think it's the afghan sasquatch landrace at work. The first ones that will be done are the Dr. Who, Durban, and Alien crosses. The bubblegums are currently undergoing a pheno hunt, but I'll pull a male from that run. They're about 1.5 weeks old, where my WifixGG male is at 5 weeks and ready to start dropping pollen any day.

The wifi gorilla is an incredible cultivar. Beautiful fire, huge producer, really strong chocolate-thai smell/taste and partial structure from the GG#4 mother. I was calling it the Super Saiyan Haze (Oozaru cut). Get it? A giant alien gorilla that spits white fire? Dragon Ball Z? Eh? Eh?
I also have an Alien Wifi pheno that I call the "Ayyyy lma-og". I think I'm pretty good at naming cuts...

Yeah, it was more a concern with space, than anything. Didn't want to devote too much space and have a male or two and have gaps in the flower room. I'm considering getting another tent just for seeds to address that.

Seriously, I cannot stop taking on new projects. Every grow doubles, every time. Anything I ever make after cost is redirected right back, but I can never justify putting it anywhere else. Growing is a disease, man.

I know, I've already plotted out a few stacks in expenditures over the next couple months. I can't think of anything I'd rather put my energy into, though! I grabbed a mother tent, seed tent is next!

I feel like with COBs, it starts getting really expensive and out of hand :eyesmoke:. I have so many extra chips and heatsinks that I bought just to fuck around with, thank god. Every month I find a new reason to build another light. I think I'm becoming really good at this though, like profession level garden management, so I feel like it's paying off in more ways than just the obvious monetary ones. It's getting to the point where I think I could get a decent job with a large nursery just by putting together a resume of test results. COBs are the future man, although they will drive you friggin nuts, I don't regret ever getting in the water.

I don't either, at all. The numbers don't lie. It's just the available funds to build the lamp, but it's about a year ROI so if you're able to build it, it makes sense. I'm building a small one for my mother tent, and I still want to build one for my veg tent, but I have a hard time justifying a $600 veg lamp. It's not priority, let's say that. I have space for another 5x5 footprint in the room, so I'm going to add something. I was looking at this Luxtheon Medusa to slide in at the end of the canopy I've already got, to push out a quick run until I can set aside more towards lights. I still have to pay back the startup costs (2nd run, 1st had really poor yield) - But this time next year, I should be full COB + Kessil. I really think the warm white with the boosted blurple did wonders for potency. I won't be able to design anything like that until I get a PAR meter though. I have kind of a stadium lighting rig in mind with the blurple washing over the top of the canopy. Patience is the key word.

AHAHAHAHA hell no are you going to spend 600 on a veg light. I'll help you build a super good one on this thread for like $180.

Did I post my veg lights on this thread yet? I'll show you how I built my Lil'dipper, just active cooled heat sinks, five chips, and they swivel around so you can direct the light. I tried to build something like GreenGene's drone light, wound up making this abomination that I don't think I'll ever disconnect from the wall.

$55 for chips
$48 for a driver
$45 for heatsinks
$8 for 12v power supply

And you can flower under this setup if you want, I pulled almost 2 g/w with two of them in a 3 by 5 with no air conditioning.
