The dark cycle is very important to growing marijuana. Respiration ( this is when the marijuana plants are making energy from sugar and oxygen) continues in the dark period but at a much slower rate, almost independent of available oxygen because the leaves of the weed are not making oxygen in the dark.

In the dark, there is a shift from leaf production to root production as the leaves transfer excess stored energy down to the branches and to the roots. Therefore, some dark time allows for better root structures.

Another article will be written on why a 24-hour light cycle is not the way to supercharge root growth of your marijuana plants.

The specs:
65 watts
4,550 lumens
6500k
Price:$39.95

It will work for gardening, but doesn't provide enough lumens for optimal growth. For and indoor garden, about 7000 lumens per square foot is optimal. Atleast 3000 per square foot minimum. Lets do some figuring....

For a 4 Sqf area.
4550(L) divide by 4 (sqf) = 1131.5 Lumens per square foot.

For a 4 square foot space, you'd need atleast three of these lights minimum. At $39.95, thats $119.00 for a minimum amount of light.
And it would be 195 watts.

This is not very efficient. I would recommend a 250 watt HPS. I have a 400 watt metal halide that i don't even notice a difference in the power bill while its running 24/7. Take a look around your house at some of the wattage's of the appliances you use, a lot of them are way more wattage than you'd think.

For example, a friend of mine bought an electric heater last winter. (just a tiny one), and it was 1400 watts! There was little to no difference in the power bill. At most an extra $15 a month with the heater.

If your worries about the power bill are for security, then go by this:
The average house uses 1000 watts of power for each room. There is no reason to worry about the electric company reporting you or anyone else to the police. They sell power, and are happy your buying a little more. For all they know, you could have installed a hot tub. As long as the power bill is paid, i wouldn't worry about this.

To find the light that is right for you, use this :

Divide the number of lumens the light produces, by the square footage of your grow space. It should be atleast 3000 per square foot. Optimum is about 7-8000 per square foot.

I'm not sure where you live, but september seems a little late to start growing to me.

Also as for the deep in the woods thats acceptable as long as you take precautions to your safety like make sure its not right off a hiking trail or anything or anywhere people can see you heading on a regular basis ( i'm also pretty paranoid about..well everything :| ).

you should also make sure to have enough sunlight when you do start becuse other trees and what not could outcompete your plants for light remember they are photosensitive and move toward the light so monitor your area before choosing it to insure that everything is cool 8).

Make sure you get an outdoor strain and not an indoor that could result in some pretty awful yields if any.

I'm sure someone else here has some even better advice for you but that's what I got. This place has quite a few Primo growers.

In Puerto Rico eh

So your gonna be planting just in time for hurricane season.
It gets tricky now I'm not to familiar with Puerto Rico but the deep forests you plan on growing are probably rainforests, and this to me says insane amount of rainfall, also means nutrients in soil are washed away.

Most nutrients in rainforests are contained in the biomass itself, plants develop shallow roots to be able to extract the nutrients that do become available. Also North and South coast of Puerto Rico receive different amount of rainfall during this period.

I would suggest you get a strain from your area perhaps an equatorial sativa otherwise you could have some problems trying to grow strains from a more temperate climate in a tropical setting.

I'm sure there's more that can be said but I feel myself starting to ramble... In my day people used to tie onions to their belts and...Oh there I go again

Hope this helps a bit more

Oh yeah laws are pretty harsh there so the best advice I can give you is cover your ass! ;-) (no pun intended)
