You should have received a small sponge with your volcano, you need to use this, if you do not the oil will melt onto the fan, even with bud unless you use a lot. Usually keep the temp a 5-6.5, 350-400, try a regular dab see how much vapor you get, then go from there.
My coworker said the only way he ever broke or heard of breaking a volcano was putting wax in it. If you put too much it melts and leaks all over the ceramic heating element.
