Harvesting a Single Bud

That "bud" is all leaf and barely any flower.

That's going to be some harsh and poorly tasting smoke. Yea it'll get you high, but enjoy hacking up your lungs and getting a headache from smoking fertilized sugar leaves.

If I let the rest of the plant keep growing will it get better than that cutting? I'm planning to let it go until at least Feb. 5. It's true. I'm desperate for smoke. Who hasn't been? Thx everyone for bearing with me on my 1st grow, it should only get better from here on out

Well, I ended up drying that 1.5g cutting for 1 full day next to good airflow from a fan. Then I grinded up probably .5g and put that in my brand new Magic Flight Launch Box. The rest is curing with a boveda 62% in a mason jar. Well it worked and it did get my high. But it was a good indicator, that the rest of the plant needs a bit longer growth time, and of what taste/high to expect. I can say I don't regret doing it, especially being a first timer that doesn't have access to any other smoke where I live.

Buddy, should have left them longer and fixed the feed issue. When you have issues in flower, flowring time could be extended like a motherfucker. Even if you found seeds, its highly unlikely the plant got to finish them to maturity.

I just switched from an assorted cfl arrangement to a 150w HPS so I'm hoping maybe that will make a difference now for these last 2 weeks.

So most growers use too much fertilizer on their first grow. I used too little, but adjusted and am surprised how much my plant really required, I think your next plants would benefit from more nutrients. Like I mentioned the other day, the yellowing leaves that fell off were having their nitrogen sucked out and pushed upwards to the newer growth. Don't be afraid to add more, and don't be afraid to.use grow nutrients (that are stronger in nitrogen) during flower of need be. You'll know if you gave them too much.

Glad you got your fix, now get that baby to harvest time. If you have enough time before you flush, if you're going to flush, bump up the nutrients while you still can.

I always wondered what was on top of your soil...I get it now! Haha

I have been giving more nutes and the plants thank me. Also, i just took this cutting from Day 60. It looks really good to me, what do you guys think? The pic is after about 10 hours of dry time. I picked the branch with fewest leaves and most % Amber or Brown Pistils.

Not too bad for a first grow. And if the strain is pretty good, save those seeds. Extra seeds are always good if the weed is good.

If I was you, in future grows I would use a little bigger pot, top and LST more. The more you top, the more main colas you will have. And smoking your tops {along with smell} will help you decide which plants you want to breed or clone.

If it was truly self pollinated and there were not enough pollen sacks for you to see, that means there will be mostly female seeds. But they will run the risk of being hermaphrodite themselves. I wouldn't run them alongside anything special that you were planning to breed. But for your first few grows, it won't hurt to learn on them.

I have heard that the fewer male sacks on a hermie plant the higher the % of female seeds produced. I will be testing that theory this summer. {kind of} Last year about halfway through flower one of my plants changed her name to Herman. I had already bred her with another male, and pinched off the few balls as soon as I saw them, but I will isolate any plants grown from this seed until I see what they do.

You are welcome. I have done it as wrong as it can be done, and still made smoke. As you grow more, get in the habit of really paying attention to your plants. They will tell you what they need.

When I was young and broke, I was where you are today.I over watered, over fed, picked too many leaves in the summer. Like you, I smoked my weed before it was ready. Experience will teach you to be a good grower, but there is only on way to get experience. You got to live it.

But one of the simple things I learned was to plant a few extra plants and smoke leaves and tops off them to let your best ones go all the way. Soon you will be growing enough hard nuggs you won't have to worry about it, but it never hurts to have enough in Veg that you can take a few extra tops along.
