Harvest

Hey guys, I know a lot of you say to wait until half the trichomes are amber before harvesting, but I've been reading Jorge Cervantes's book and he says "When the capitate-stalked trichomes have developed a spherical head and are still transparent, is the best time to harvest. Senescing glands start to turn brown and get smaller; they are starting to decompose and THC content diminishes."
I'm not doubting anyone's knowledge when they suggest to wait until half are amber, but can someone explain why they wait this long and not harvest when they are clear like he says in the book?
Thanks!

Canuck you're right about the decomposition. If you want a headier, more creative high then harvest at that point; if you want a couch lock, then let them turn amber.

....But be careful here. A friend I know harvested his LSD strain with the trichs all still clear, and he is stuck with nearly a lb of great looking stuff that doesnt produce much of a high and there is little he can do with it now.
Just sayin........

You guys are awesome, thanks for the help. I think cloudy is the way to go while anticipating the turning of amber during dry/cure like Grown n Oregon said.
Thanks guys

for sure. i myself, like to chop down when all the tris are mostly cloudy with just a few amber here and there. after 10 -14 days hanging and a couple weeks in a jar they generally even out to 50/50ish. some more some less but always good and dank. nothing wrong with trial and error..lol

Big problem would be timing. Clear tri's show up after maybe 3 weeks flowering.
I know they aren't mature then. What do you go by then? The pistils?

Do you hang your entire plant and trim after it's dried, or trim wet then hang? I've been debating this as well...
Thanks man

I do a good trim when it gets chopped just because it sucks to trim dry. After its dry I do a little touch up trim and then into jars!

i chop my plants down limb by limb and de-leaf them of all the fan leaves and leaves with visible stems. dry them for about 10 -14 days and then trim the sugar leaf off and put them in jars. open the jar everyday for a couple weeks to let the gasses out and so it dont get mold. after a cpl weeks...sometimes longer depending on how much moisture is still left in the buds cuz big fat colas just take longer, its just the way it is..lol. i also use 1 gallon jars for big colas. after the moisture is under control, they are good to store long term if u have the will power to do so. another thing that i recomend.. others will dispute im sure but to each his own. i leave the buds on the stick when i put them in jars. i leave it on there all the way up till the moment it either hits the bottom of a bag.. or hits the bottom of a bowl. i fimrly believe it comes out to be a far better quality smoke when left on the stick as long as possible. i have no scientific proof for ya if thats what ya need..other than the fact ive done it both ways with ump-teen different strains and my lungs will tell ya that a smoother tastier smoke happens when left on the stick...good luck.p1.jpgplants 372.jpg chop the stick to the length of a jar..or use ur fiskers a a ruler cuz they are about the same length and fill em' up. wide mouth jars work the best. on average u get about 1/2 z per jar.
