Harvest help

It's getting close to harvest time and I really want to do this second harvest right... so I'm wondering a few things...

1.) When I'm ready to harvest, the first thing I should do is turn the lights off in my grow room and let them sit in darkness for 48 hours before chopping right? And why do I do this? haha.

2.) Next I clip the stems and do my trimming and then hang them upside down in the grow room with the fans blowing on them in conditions similar to 68-75f and 50% RH?

3.) Then after 5 days or so of hanging, and the stems snap with relative ease, I place them in a glass mason jar and let them cure until the jar begins to sweat and then burp the container and close it again? How often do I have to do this and at what intervals is it most effective?

Your experienced input of anything I've missed or got wrong would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. - One additional question, does it matter if the soil is dry or moist when I'm chopping? Is one preferred over the other or does it make no difference? Thanks. :joint::peace:

Nevermind about the 48 hours... I did some researching on it and it's false. Any other tidbits might be helpful though.

suposedly its best to harvest before your lights come on, ar after the lights have been off for several hours. its said that the plant is full of nutrients during the day, and store them all in their roots at night, not sure about that, but it cant hurt

1 inexperienced comment I can give is that the fans should not blow on the buds, just in the room to circulate the air, they will dry too quick otherwise. From what I have been told if the stems snap with rellative ease it is possible to overdry, well chances are higher anyway

Yeah sorry. I didn't mean right on them, I meant circulating air in the grow room. Good thought though, I like where your head's at!

Man .... I loved being ripped off my own weed. It dried very fast in my grow room. I just put it in the jar to go overnight and then i'll open for the day tomorrow and close it again for the night and see how it's looking. Then it's on to perma-store =D Got about an oz... nothing too big but the smoke is wonderful.

Dark period before harvesting allows plants to produce more THC resin. THC degrades when exposed to light. Dry plants in darkness and try to keep room temperature below 70F. Drying to quickly gives to much of a green taste. Everything else sounds OK and I prefer to harvest 5-7 days after the last watering, soil moisture is low.
