Happy Thanksgiving

this thread is highly offensive. millions of people lost their lives for a day with a turkey. you should be ashamed of yourself for talking about thankfulness and being greatful when this day represents bloodshed, theft, rape, genocide.

Actually, that didnt come till MANY years later.

Thanksgiving was a sitdown meal with the indians in celebration of the pilgrims first successful harvest. Without the help of the indians the pilgrims would of died off completely.

a family member posted on fb..."I am no cook but it said let the bird chill in the sink for a few hours"

The bird is in the oven! Stuffing has been committed, and the probes of my brand-spankin digital remote thermometer are keeping watch. We are doing science

The meal was a triumph
I'm making a note here: huge success

The bird came out wonderful: cooked to a T, juicy, flavorful without being perceptibly salty.
The mashies (as per suggestion) were also top flight.
The assbread I am not calling quite the success. Flavor was excellent, but I didn't nail the texture.
It kind of fell apart upon being removed from the bird.
(However, seeing that this was my first-ever stuffing from scratch, I'm somewhat consoled ... and I think I know how to do it better next time. The boy gave it an 11 for flavor, and dismissed my texture complaints as unimportant.)
A Frei Bros. Reserve Chardonnay anno 2012 and a combo beef/turkey gravy completed the repast.

Cleaning up and doing dishes while stuffed&buzzed suuuuucks.
But I got it done, and as i was cleaning the carcass for disposal i was popping unreasonable amounts of meat-shreds into my mouth. I am painfully full, and I'm fine with that. Now I can slack off with less guilt as I survey the mostly clean kitchen.
Now I will settle down with what's left of the bottle that macht Frei.

i just discovered cranberry jellie/relish/whatever it is...how in my 47 years have i never tried that??!!??! :eyesmoke:

I had an ex GF whose mom made home made cranberry relish.. damn.. so good...... my folks had the canned crap for our dinner.. we dont even buy it anymore..

I do know this,

A thinly sliced turkey breast sandwich with mayo and a slice of cranberry sauce topped with freshly ground black pepper is not a bad leftover meal fo sho....mmmmmmm.

Peace

That's hangover food if you could have it delivered from the kitchen :)
