Nice!! I'll go with Stephen Crane who wrote "Red Badge of Courage". One of the first books that really gripped me.

The Wayfarer

The wayfarer,
Perceiving the pathway to truth,
Was struck with astonishment.
It was thickly grown with weeds.
"Ha," he said,
"I see that none has passed here
In a long time."
Later he saw that each weed
Was a singular knife.
"Well," he mumbled at last,
"Doubtless there are other roads."

Stephen Crane

I Saw a Man

I saw a man pursuing the horizon;
Round and round they sped.
I was disturbed at this;
I accosted the man.
"It is futile," I said,
"You can never -- "

"You lie," he cried,
And ran on.

So this is the Birthday thread!

Post all of your birthday shout outs here! Friends, family, famous and not so famous, anybody.

I'll start it off with a bang and a big Birthday shout out to...... (drum roll).....Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (July15th,1606 – October 4, 1669)!

He painted some phenomenal works of art and this is probably his most famous, "The Night Watch". If you ever get to Amsterdam and go to the Rijks Museum (well worth your time, especially baked) and see some of this masters work UP CLOSE. His ability to paint in blacks is unmatched by any peer. This painting had me standing for at least 30 minutes unable to pull away from it. It's that intriguing!

So happy B-Day Rembrandt!

So anyone you want to recognize or just give an alert to everybody, do it here.
its funny you would use that piece as an example its my favorite rembrandt aside from his crazy etchings.

Wiki, ur so kewl... :wink: :clap:

Smokey, yes indeed. If you haven't seen this work of art up close, ur missing something special. Rembrandt used black in ways I never thought possible. This is something. Overall, I prefer the Dutch painters in style and subject matter.

Happy birthday to Gram Parsons!

Another groundbreaking musician taken far too young, although he did it to himself.

A pioneer of alt.country and country rock. Founding member of The Flying Burrito Brothers and pseudo-Byrd.

His drug intake was so heavy only Keith Richards could keep up with him.

Where would The Eagles be if there were no Gram Parsons?

Today I pay my respects to Robert Kennedy. A person I didn't always agree with, but I think no matter our differences, his speech here is both poignant and unfortunately clairvoyant.
