Hang dry whole plant/Cure

I excitingly just harvested my first photos last Sunday. I was too inconsistent with filling my humidifier. I tried to keep it at 60% but my RH in the room was 35%. So when i wasn't filling the humidifier it would drop. Therefore i only got 6 days where i felt it was necessary to buck them down. I'm happy i hit 548g dry for 3 plants. But i have a few concerns, i took off 90%of fan leaves or so and in to 1 gal jars until i can trim. 3 plants, each in to 1 gal mason jars. I had to put stems and 62% packs to get humidity up around 62% to 65%. Do i still have to burp if it's chilling around 62%? Are the jars to packed? Do i need to break them down more for more space in jar?20220130_121302.jpg20220130_121315.jpg20220130_160718.jpg

I have a similar situation. Just cut down today. I added an extra 4x4 tent to my grow room and a Cool Mist Humidifier just outside the tent with a vent hole to let some of the moisture in, a 4"inline for ventilation. My rooms sitting at 33-35% rh (before humidifier). 65-70° temp. I hung the whole plant as well. Did you find dry trimming to slow your drying time down?

Damn dry winter air lol. Yeah it helped me for sure. I wet trimmed an oz and that is more chlorophyll smelling. Just don't slack like i did. 50-60% humidity in tent under 70f.

I know right! Its a love/hate relationship lol. Definitely, I'm hoping my buds retain the terpine profile & good smell they had before harvest, trying not to dry too fast!

It really is haha. It is crazy how the tent goes from smelling like the world. To hay and grass, then once in jars boom! I'm curing for 21 days or so, it just smells and hit so much better for me.

Congrats on the harvests all. Good stuff!

You definitely want the dry time to take as long as you can when it’s dry like that. Sometimes there is nothing you can do. That hay smell being partly genetics and partly drying too quick. If it leaves then you did right and caught it.

I have a big whole house style humidifier I use for the drying. I have it outside the tent and in the room with the intake.

I find 60% can make the dry time take forever. Once I was at 21 days and still not snapping branches.

I usually shoot for 55% and 50-55 goes in the jars. I like to vape and a slightly drier bud seems to vape nicer in my opinion. I’d do this for smoking bud too though.

Unless it’s really crispy I’d let the cure do it’s thing without the boveda personally as I don’t like my bud that wet. Think 60% was really more for money making than smokin but that’s just my old stoner opinion lol.

Do i need to burp if it's sitting at the right rh?

Good question. I do burp out of habit but really just the first few days. I’ve always thought of that as a check to make sure we’re good. If they’re ready dried right it might not be necessary at all honestly.

I do for the first couple weeks but very briefly. Tumble the jar, pop the lid, 10-15secs later I put it back on. I just want to exchange the air, not remove the humidity. Once a day for the first week, once every couple of days the 2nd week and then once or twice that 3rd week and then I leave it sealed until I need something out of it.
