Dear fellow growers,
I have been growing an indica for 7 weeks and I believe the vegetative state has come to an end. From seed up until now I've been using a 6500K, ~6000 lumen LED light which has worked out quite well with just one plant in a closet.
I've known for a while that my current lightning setup is not optimal for the flowering phase, so I have been looking at HPS lamps with reflector and ballast.
But then I found a halogen work light, 2800K, 400W, 8500 lumen. I have been reading about halogen lights and most growers say it will not work.
I could be wrong as this is my first grow but the light spectrum of the halogen lamp is within the acceptable range needed by the plant for flowering, and since it's just one plant in a small space the relatively low lumen output should be enough. The only real issue the way I see it is heat and lumens per watt.
I am able to regulate the temperature somewhat, the grow room was about 28-30C when I first switched to the halogen and I've gotten it down to 24-26C now. I'm also aware that a 400W HPS would yield double or more lumens than my current. For any future projects I will consider getting a HPS light.
Regarding the plant it seems to be doing well, it has been growing fast and last week it stopped growing taller and have been getting quite bushy. The tip of the top leaves are yellow/brown, I believe this could be from the LED-light hanging to close. All the other leaves looks great except for a few fan leaves at the bottom part that are drying up and falling off, this is common I gather.
I started the flowering phase yesterday leaving it dark for 12 hours and will be doing 12/12 for the remaining time. I'm hoping to see the flowers grow by the end of this week or earlier.
Any comments, thoughts and tips are greatly appreciated!
Kind regards,
Jointe
