Haha how did I screw this up?

I thought carbon filters were pretty basic and easy to figure out. But gimme a chance I can screw it up :hump: Anyways, I got it in the mail take the plastic off and mess everywhere. I assumed the shipping messed it up a little so I put it in the bathtub, shook it off hooked it up to the fan and was still blowing dust so I turned off the fan due to fear of it making a bigger mess.

My question is will it be just temporary when i hook up the fan or can there be something wrong with the filter itself? Thx all

it sounds like you have the fan blowing threw the fliter instead of vice versa.. take the fan off and turn it around so that you're now sucking air threw the filter and not blowing it out of it..
if you're blowing air out of it, it's not going to do much in the way of scrubbing dirty, smelly air..

Yeah I did it both ways and it was either pushing dust into the box i had it in or pulling it into the air...just didn't seem normal

did it come with like an outer filter?? kinda hard to describe what they look like.. hmm, mine is like a piece of lets see how to word it so i can describe it for you..
it's like, you ever seen the filter material that goes inside of say an air conditioner?? that's kind of what it looks like, and it simply should wrap around the outside of the filter as a prefilter for small bits of dust and dirt, etc.. if it didn't come with one, i'm sure you could find something to make your own from a local home depot or loewes..

also what i do is every so often take filter off and rinse the cloth part take a rubber hammer and lightly hit the filter to shake it up i found it settles and by doin this i noticed it helped alot but your being new guessing you got air goin in backwards should be filter then exhaust fan sucking not blowing

Yeah its just going in my closet because the fan has to be outside my tent because I just have a 2x4 and its going to be to crowded. Probably for the filter to. I might have to put it and the fan outside

how about cutting down a small piece of filter material so that it covers the hole where the dust is blowing out of ?? all you'd need is a pretty small piece of filter clothe or maybe even screen if the mesh was fine enough..
just a thought i had..

Cool thx I'll try that out...I got it part of a package deal so it might just be a cheap one to, but its a nice setup! I can't wait to get started just waiting for one more piece! Just getting everything put together and this happened so I figure I would figure out if this is normal or not. If something is wrong in the next cpl days i can return it so thx for the help.

2x4 is plenty of room for all of that! I got a 4" inline fan, 6" cool tube, and 18" filter all inside a 20"x36" tent.

So I did some math...if I put the filter above the light i will need 19" and 18" for my buckets that gives me 23" left for my plants to grow up. Is that enough room? Should I study up on SOG?

30 inches should still give you enough room it may get tight towards the end though

You will never know till you try

5 feet, I have 26" of grow space from the light to the top of the bucket. Usually plenty of space given I'm scrogging.
Nice thx for the help. Do you have any reinforcement up top for the weight? I have a cooled hood not sure how much heavier they are then a tube but its a beast. The rods don't look like they can hold all of it by itself
