Harvested the princess at 13 weeks. She was looking real shitty. Bagseed flowered under cfl then 400 watt hps for flower.

Took a little snip off "Dirty Hairy" which is 10 weeks into flowering:

Let me know what you guys think. I'm going to give Dirty Hairy a couple more weeks before I harvest the rest of her.

looks ready to me.
Which one? They are both getting new growth on them. The 1st one (first 2 pictures) had a lot of NEW growth that never started until late and was continually growing new pistols. The bottom of the cola looked done, but the top was new. I finally got sick of waiting and harvested because the plant looked almost dead.

The second nug (last 4 pics) was the most looking done nugget on the 2nd plant.

The trichs on both were NOT amber when I harvested. At most it was 50/50 clear/cloudy with a few amber trichs thrown in.

Because most people are still advising to harvest when the trichs are 50/50 amber/cloudy. I've heard you and some others say thats not always the case, but most others are. So i'm trying to play the odds and get the best harvest I can. It's hard to wade through all the advice and rules people give until I have some personal experience under my belt, especially when so much of it contradicts the other stuff. I will reevalute these thoughts after I dry and cure those beasts and have a toke or two.

lol it really not a contradiction just a failure to also account for other things that need to be accounted for the trich ratio is a good thing to go by but only after you have your hair recession, and calyx surge in growth then you look at the triichs on the calyx's to make oyur decision i was saying on those sativa's you could have chopped a week or 2 ago thats hwy i am saying the information they give isnt exactly wrong as its out of context it would be like somone told you how a salad is suposed to look but not give any info on what happens on the way to making the salad look that way

and again harvest when you want to thats teh thing about growing you learn from doing not being told how to do

That's the thing though, I don't know when I "want" to harvest. I know the product I want to get when I harvest, i'm just not experienced enough to know exactly when that time is.

lol yep takes a few harvest to get it your self but dont expect stability from teh bag seed thats all your best bet is to just grow some bag seed till you get money for seeds then get some good and youll have a much easier time determining things

I have clones of the second one. It smells and looks crazy, so I think im going to just do that plus one other female strain i have. If that other strain turns out not to be as good ill just stick with all clones of dirty hairy until I can get some seeds or clones from someone. Doing the same strain over and over should help me fine tune it.

Sorry - did not document the rest of the harvest process.

The princess turned out to be garbage. It's curing in jars right now, but I think I dried it way too fast. I dried it for about 5 days, but it felt fairly crispy when it went into the jars. no sign of mold or anything, the buds still seem just as crispy and dried out and hay smelling as when I jarred it.

The rest of Dirty Hairy was dried for less time, and put into jars BEFORE it became quite as crispy. The buds were nearly wet when I removed them just hours later though. So for 2-3 days after that I alternated between a few hours in the jar, and pulling them out of the jar and sitting in a dark cabinet to dry back out. After a couple days of this the buds were not moist when I opened the jars. Now i'm checking them like once a day, and skipping days too. No mold, and the buds seem to be doing much better. They smell much better (more like weed) than the previous harvest.

They are not that potent though. They seem just alright (I would compare their quality to $90/oz ditch weed - though not as nasty looking). The high is not that high, and doesnt have a long duration (maybe an hour or so).

thanks for the update. sorry you didn't get as good a crop as you hoped. still, it's useful for others to hear what happened with the overdrying, i'll make sure to check mine often as they dry. i'm chopping my first girl tomorrow morning :)

My sativa never got amber trichs, but I yanked at 12 weeks. The pistils were red, they had receded and trichs all cloudy. It seems to me the trich/amber deal is stressed too much here. As said above, some sativas never get amber. Haven't grown Indica so i can't speak for that, but if amber means the THC is degrading, I'd think you wouldn't want amber trichs. Indica buzz by nature is more couchlock, Sativa head buzz. All you can do is try and gauge when it's as potent as it's gonna be

I tried a bit more of Dirty Hairy after I posted on friday with a clean pallet. We smoked the entire doob saying how it was "just alright" and not that great. About 20 minutes later I was having difficulty driving and glad I was pulling up my house.

The high crept up on me, taking about 20-25 minutes to reach full strength. Then I was pretty energetically high for about an hour, maybe slightly less. I think we were high for a bit longer than that, but we stopped feeling high at that point. The best thing I can relate that to is after you smoke and you do not feel "high" at all anymore, then some dumb ass commercial comes on and you crack up at it, and realize you in fact still are high you just aren't immediately aware of it or feel it. That's what it was like. It has gotten better with each smoke, and I think I need to leave it cure for another few weeks.

I finally weighed what was left of dirty hairy. I have 14 grams dried in the jar. I would estimate I had about 28 grams from the start. But after about 7 one gram sample joints, and giving about 7 grams out, i'm left with about half of it. It's doing nice though. Still a thumbs up.
