Sorry should been more specific, Queensland, Australia (just sounded really familiar). Those sort of incidents are really tragic and totally avoidable...

To the first, it's true. (When you go to buy your gun, you fill out papers stating you don't use any illegal substances, withholding information from the US Federal Government is a big no no).

The second, You have a license to sell firearms? Or are you in a state that requires a license to have a firearm? Or do you mean a CCW? Either of the three, you wouldn't be getting that license back until you wait 7 years after you got your felony and then went to court to get it anulled.

And hell yes, I love my guns.

No, I dont sell them, but I have a license to own them. Not possible to get a CCW where I live.

Correction it's not any illegal substance it's any 'controlled substance' which includes alcohol. I wonder how many alcoholics lie on that question. I also seriously doubt that an alcoholic would be forced to surrender his firearms for say drunk driving. I can honestly say I never lied on that question. I hate alcohol and at the time of purchase of all my weapons I had been 100% sober for over 5 years.

The CCW statement would greatly depend on your state. In my state you have to get pardoned by the Governor before you can obtain a CCW if you have a felony. Then to get through the NICS you have to go through the courts to have your record completely expunged of your crime. Sex Offenders, Domestic Abuse cases, and most 'violent' crimes result in loss of those rights for life. I'm pretty sure they'd include growing in that one too, which is bull in my opinion.

Well unfortunately I don't live in the US, although I'm not sure I would want to be there at the moment, economy etc.

License to own? No CCW? I'm sorry man.. that blows. I've owned a gun since I was like 15 (in my name).. bitch innit registered (which is legal here).. Good shit. We have Open Carry otherwise we have to get CCW's. Vermont you don't need a CCW to carry concealed, and you can be 16 to buy guns!

If you're talking DUI then you're talking State Law.. State Law varies on what is and isn't a controlled substance.

Alcohol (and Tobacco) according to Federal Law are controlled substances that are heavily regulated and controlled by the BATFE. Illegal production of Alcohol is still a federal crime.... IF it's sold. You can make all the beer, wine and moonshine you wish, but the second you sell it, it's production and distribution is a federal crime.

State definitions differ all over the place. Down here when you get your drivers license you are asked, 'Are you addicted to drugs or any other controlled substances?"

So the 'state' definition of controlled substance my vary as much as state firearm laws. The funny thing is I think that FDA should reclassify alcohol as narcotic and having no medical value and reverse it's position on marijuana.

I stand corrected.. I just read the Controlled Substance act (talk about boring) and you're correct it and Tobacco were exempted.
I was specifically thinking of the BTFE 'Tax Stamp' that exists on all Alcohol and Tobacco products.

I'm not sure where you are, but down here in the oddly shaped SE state we have no firearms registration (just NICS and a 3 day wait unless you have CCW)

CCW is around $200 after all the fees and the regs aren't awful but not great. I just wish we had open carry, not that I would. I would just prefer to not be paranoid about my shirt riding up every time I get out of the car.

I guess that would depend on your definition of medicinal value. Supposedly 1 glass of wine a day or 1 beer lowers your chances of having a heart attach because it lowers your blood pressure.

The American Medical Association has acknowledged that limited amounts of alcohol does have positive effects on blood pressure. However it also states that it is unknown if there is a lasting liver damage due to daily use of alcohol as blood pressure treatment.

So take your pic. The funny thing is that Marijuana also lowers blood pressure over time. Go figure...our food raises our blood pressure and our 'vices' lowers it.
