Guitars..Amps..Basses..Drums..Studios

He writes his own. It is heavy rock. Now and then I talk him into something with a good old fashioned rock beat.

nice. I first started playing bass...getting my influences from a funk artist named Lewis Johnson...and then I started getting into jazz bass when I started listening to Stanley Clarke. Now I play guitar but...yea I love the low end power of the bass. Plus funk rules.

Music is even more expensive then our green hobby.

you should look into some linux applications, like audacity, jack and pure data.

that way you can save money by not having to buy mixers and synths etc...

Digital editing on Ubuntu studio is fairly good, and it'll run on a simple Pentium 4 with 1 or 2 gigs of ram and a basic Soundblaster sound card.

oh and I just noticed a V-amp in that big photo of the studio, theres a bunch of linux stuff you can get that does the same thing and its free.

so far the only thing I've found I cant do digitally is my harmonica, but I've got my electric clarinet and a synth program that comes close.

Must be a pain in the ass to take to shows. We had a block party show downtown a couple of weeks ago, when we showed up we found out that it was a block party on the roof of a six story building...no elevator....five bands carrying equipment up stairs. It turned out to be a blast, tons of people showed up, we had a great time...then we had to go down six floors..not as bad but I couldn't imagine carrying that thing around, even with a handtruck. I imagine sound guys jaws drop when they see you carting that in to a show.

True that, i played bass for a couple of years before I got into guitar, i had a musicman stingray so that was great for slap bass.

Yeah, audacity is an awesome program, free, cross platform, and pretty easy to use.

He uses Adobe audition. But to get an awesome sound there is no beating a good mixer.

He used to do it all on the computer with a tiny mixer.

We were both blown away by the difference when he got this one. Now I know why people pay the big bucks for good equipment.

The difference was like night and day. I heard someone say there is playing at playing music and then there is playing music. The guy that said it was an old rock and roller who was quite stoned at the time. So take it with a grain of salt. :)

Hubby went to some big event put on my guitar salons a few years back. He said that the flamigo event was the best. The guitar player was so fast and accurate it was amazing. The dancers were good too. ;)

yeah well I suppose it all comes down to personal preference, knowledge of applications, skill and the type of computer thats running.

If your using anything less then 1GB ram and a 3Ghz processor your going to have problems, also if you use a shitty on board sound card it'll sound like CRAP!

also how long ago was he just using a computer?

I'm not saying throw away every piece of equipment, but just give linux a try, its free (adobe is a few hundred bucks), easy and there is an application for everything, the only hard bit is finding the right software.

what is all this software talk? i just have an amp and pedal. what am i missing? is this stictly for recording? because i have a whole album in my head. lol

Yes this is mostly for recording. What album do you have in your head? Does it hurt? It is a CD, vinyl, tape? Sounds like you need to see a doctor about that.

Hubby learned a ton after reading recording for dummies. Explains the mixing process in detail.

Hubby has album in his head also (several actually) but the problem is finding serious musicans.
