Yeah Las Venturas = Las Vegas, San Fierro = San Francisco, Los Santos = Los Angeles...
I played the shit out of San Andreas and my friend had GTAIII & Vice City so we played those ones all the time too, all of them great, insanely fun games!
Even the old school top down view was fun! I remember plaing GTA2 on the Playstation thinking I could barely drive 2 blocks without crashing! Lmao add in earning respect, killing civilians, rampages, collecting drugs (packages) lmao, brilliant games!
No shit, circa 2001-2002, a friend and I were talking about this with military fps's, a few years later BF1942 came out.
Now we have BF3! Shit is getting ridiculous! Imagine what's in store for us in 10-15 years!

gta2 is one of my all time favorites. it doesn't have all the whatnot that the newer games have but for its time it's the sickest shit ever. i can still hear the jesus song that the krishna gang had on the radio lol. and why doesn't gta have the oil spots anymore? i loved how in gta2 you could mod your car to spit oil out the back and whoever was chasing you would slide off the road. and the oil would stay forever as long as you didn't have any more than 10 spots. and the land mines. wtf happened to the land mines?
