Growmans 2013 Seed Run - Multiple Exclusive Strains

Well, its not really the characteristics in the "seeds" that I look 4 bro. Its the characteristics in the strain I am after. And what I look for in strains that I want to cross/breed is how fast it grows, taste,if I am looking for short really bushy plants, or lanky ones. Which I don't cross/breed any strains that are "lanky" at all! Also I try to find strains that have really tight compact nodes, also flowering time. Those 3 things really is what I try to produce. The flowering time, taste, and node spacing. And as far as "testing" the THC content, really for me the only way to know/tell how much one particular strain has is by smoking it, "the high". I wish I had a "lab"!!! Lol.. ;) I would LOVE it. I could do actual"tests" on said strains I am breeding!.. I learned all this stuff from my Dad, "growing" in general, alittle bit on crossing/breeding. I tried to always listen to him, even if I thought what he was doing was wrong! Because he was a botanist, and honestly there wasn't much that he didnt/couldn't do! And I am not just saying that because he is my Dad, he truely was a really smart man, & knew his shit!! Just wish he was still around so I could learn a ton more from him!! ;)
Do you have any photos of your two strains?

As a noob, I look at that and wonder "holy shit, why would you need all that stuff?". But, I take it you're using individual nutrients instead of just a fertilizer. I'm just using Jacks Classic All Purpose throughout veg and the flowering girls are getting Jack's Classic Bloom Booster and I'm really happy with the results, so far. Am I to assume that if I actually knew what I was doing, I would get much better results by using individual nutrients? Or is it just a different way of getting the same result? :leaf:

There are various types of nutrient "programs", some are 1 part water only, where all the nutrients are in the soil, other programs for neutral soils, like coco, you have basic 2 part programs, such as yours, and then it gets more complicated from there. You have 3 part programs up to (x) different nutrient parts. I've seen folks doing hydro with 10 different products.

I used to be that way.. I would fine tune the shit out my grow.. but in the end, I found (personally) it is too much effort with not enough reward. A basic 2 part system with good lighting, air circulation and temperatures will make your plants happy. It's just a weed, no need to over do it.

If you are happy with your results, I say stick with it. You may or may not get bored of it, and want to try something new. It all comes down to personal preference.

Thanks, see4. Seems like it's the same thing with keeping a reef aquarium. There's TONS of supplements, etc., that you can add to the water. However, I've grown some of the most gorgeous corals just maintaining proper water quality and doing regular water changes with good quality salt. Less room for error and much less time spent testing, measuring , etc. I'm happy as hell with the results from just mixing up a little all-purpose nutes and watering. Makes it grow like a 'weed' - just can't wait to watch my efforts 'go up in smoke' bongsmilie

I'm actually in the process of setting up a 55 gallon reef tank. Could you recommend a fast growing coral as a center peice for the tank. Using 200w of T5HO for lighting.

What kind of corals are you planning on? SPS, LPS or softies? Fast growing and SPS don't really belong in the same sentence but scrolling montipora does pretty well grows faster than most SPS. Another SPS would be a green or pink bird's nest. I had 2 colonies of those that started out smaller than my thumb that ended up almost the size of a football in the span of 3-4 years. If you do softies, stay away from xenia and green star polyps - once they take off they take over and you'll be cussing them every day. With your lights, I wouldn't get the more exotic SPS but you could do some nice branching or staghorn acropora but keep them towards the top. LPS should do great and there are some gorgeous LPS out there. Duncans and candy cane are really easy to keep. Some of the LPS that you have to spot feed can be a pain in the ass - especially if you have cleaner or banded shrimp. They'll steal it every chance they get. Are you using a sump? I started without one and regretted it. Let's you keep everything out of sight and allows leaky protein skimmers, etc., just leak back into the sump without making a mess.

Yeah I have a sump and it is a pain in the ass. I was thinking a hard coral center peice that will branch out. The back wall of the tank will be filled with live rock and then maybe some SPS on each side. Probably going to add a few anemones aswell because I have clowns. I want another clown, a yellow tang, and a hippo tang.

Glad I could help man. Also, I didn't know much about Jacks Classics, so I could not speak to its quality. However, I did a little research and it looks to be quality nutes. So I stay stick with that and only add supplements as you get more familiar with your plant(s).
