Even if you didn't buy them at the store, fortified soil and things like fish water are still nutrients. Just because it didn't come in a plastic bottle doesn't change the nutrient value of some of the things people are using and saying they're not using nutrients. Compost, squirrel poo, bat vomit, fish pee, etc. are still nutrients.
