growing with hps on flowering above 28c / 82.5F will it reduce potency

does it ? i know i loose terpenes but what about potency

Can't you get the temps down? That is kind of warm I don't think it will affect potency but it will affect yield and could cause foxtails

the only way i have is too put my leds , but im with fear of swaping stress ( week 4 flowering) because my leds are more potent in terms of ppfd , what woould u guys do ? change or go with hps and high temps

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've grown some of the dankest outdoor plants during the summer when it was over 100 degrees for six weeks straight. The plants LOVED it and were just dripping resin and terps. If you see signs of heat damage on the leaves, sure, try to do something about that, but if the plants are doing well, don't worry. Fans can keep leaf temps down too as long as you don't blow them so hard they get wind burn. Think of all the traditional growers in Lebanan, Malawi, Central America, etc, 82 degrees is like a cool morning breeze to some of these folks.

I agree. Ambient temp vs leaf temp are diff.
My only issue is keeping dark period temps from getting down to 68. 83 to 68 not so good. So if you can keep night time temps a little closer it shouldn't affect them too much. Although Ive had greatest taste/flavour running about 78° day / 70° night even dipping it to 68° last 2 weeks

Keep plenty of air moving around them and go for it.

Mine stay that warm constantly, and never had a problem. Get huge yields. Mine are under 1000w Hortilux HPS and runs 82f-84f lights on. 72f-76f at night I do have good air flow, and 3 fans running 24/7.

Leaf temp of 27C is near perfect.

Yes high heat does burn terps and and will effect end product. Aroma first and foremost.

Outdoor plants are not inside ones. 40c outside producers lovely outdoor. 40C inside is trouble.

Deffo. It’s all due to the roots and the ability to cool the plant down.

indoor 40c = 40c rootzone and they ain’t happy with that shit.

Do you mean at the canopy or the ambient temperature?
I use the back of my hand for lamp height and a thermostat for ambient temperature 25/26c the last time I measured the canopy with a thermometer it was 30c at the warmest giving me a leaf temp of 25/28c over the area with no problems.

i meant the cannopy , but yesterday it reached 29C and i still have +-7 weeks and its only getting hotter each day , i need to change to the leds , hopefully i wont make my plants hermaphrodite

I hope it all goes well for you, idk for sure but I wouldn't expect them to hermie, is it any different to me changing from mh to hps after the stretch?

Leaf temp will normally be about 3 C less than ambient. So far you have nuthing to worry about heat wise.

I only read a couple of the replies here and i can't say i agree with many.. people need to understand a few things when it comes to temperature. First its closely linked to intensity and humidity. If you are running at 83 with a high intensity and lower humidity, you can most definitely ruin a grow. Ive seen it. Teaching a buddy and he wouldnt spend the money to keep temps down so i let him learn. 83 84 whole flower, The bud looked good growing but straight airy hay when harvested. You really want to stay under 80. 75 is ideal. Outdoors the intensity is way down and humidity is usually up. the environment is natural and open and airy. A plant will be fine at higher temps outdoors than they can handle indoors.

you will have no issue changing to stronger lights just make sure they are the appropriate distance away. You may sacrifice some density switching away from hps. Get that heat down either way. Paramount. I can't say your bud WILL be total shit at 82 and 83 but the chance exists that it could be and it will definitely be worse quality all around at a higher temp. Is your ballast dimmable?

I made the change yesterday to LEDS , but the temp is a bit on the low side for leds , i can only get 72,5F , hope is not bad for my crop :S

You are going to want 80-82 to be ideal for leds. As your leaf temp will be 77-78

I have ran my led flower room at 76-75f in the winter and it did just fine.

With hps your going to see leaf temps higher then ambient temperature

OP stated he is growing with HPS.

I haven't flowered with LED but in veg my leaf temp is normally less than ambient when using LED
The article i posted uses Black Dog as a reference.

I think the take away from this is that leaf temp is usually different from ambient and is more important.

If you're running at the optimal temperature you really don't need to be concerned with leaf temp vs room temp.
