Growing upsidedown?

i heard from my freind that his cousin in cally grows his plants in hanging baskets, but instead of growing up they grow out the bottom. I've seen allot of commercials showing tomatoes being grown this way. anyone tried this. the theory is that instead of reallying on the plants vascular system to pull up water and nutes, natral gravity pulls it down to the plant at a much faster rate. this would be a cool thing to experiment with.

Sounds like a creative--albeit weird--idea. First thing that comes to mind is watering run off. I wouldn't want nutrient rich runoff dripping all over the foliage.

that could be a lazy way of foliage feeding. i would poke holes all around the edges of the pot so the runoff stays clear of the developing stem.
