Growing outdoors, vegetative step

I'm a complete newbie, and was just wondering if i needed lamps for vegetative growth if i was growing outside, or can i just give the seeds 12-14 hours of sunlight.

No lights outdoors, just the sun, in an area where they get lots of light, they flower when the seasons change on there own.

where do you live that you are only geting 12 hours of sunlight? this time of year it should be alot more than that...

I just looked it up, im getting 14 hrs. I'm in northeast USA.

No lights outside mother nature takes care of all that.

I think I read one time somebody was growing out side and was changing the grow cycle by placing a garbage can over the plant at 12 hrs light.

He got into a heat problem and had to add a 9vdc battery to a computer fan to fix the problem.

Last I heard of that grow. Don't know how it turned out. Seems like sooner or later the light cycle would get screw up.
