Hi, i was thinking i could just grow one at a time.... i have 10 afgan and 5 super silver haze.

now if i were to start with the afgan what cfl wattage would i need considering its only 1 plant? would one 300 watt cfl cut it? i have
2; 40 watt florescent tubes of different spectrum one made for plants and the other is similar to the daylight spectrum that i could
lay overhead... but if i were to go sideways and use incandescent bulbs what recommendations on products i could use to get the sides of the plants?

Also how long does it take for the plant to come out of the soil considering im using miracle grow and the opening of the seed is faced upward?

heres plant info i copied off a website that could help:

AFGHAN-MOTHER GENE
For more information about Afghan visit BuyDutchSeeds
Many of today's popular hybrids are derived from Afghan's genetics. Imported originally from Afghanistan, the Afghan strain traveled to Holland where it was cultivated exclusively. A strong indica, Afghani (as it is also called) is known for its sharp, strong smell and fat, round leaves. These leaves have glands greasy with resin which extends out to the fan leaves.
The leaves are so robust, the plant itself tends to grow large and bushy and is usually quite high yielding. A bonus for any indoor grower.
Afghan marijuana has-long before its discovery-incurred thousands of years of extreme weather conditions stemming from its mountainous surroundings, thus leaving the plant strong, sturdy and exceedingly resilient to disease.
Perfect for outdoor growing, though indoor is usually preferred. This rugged plant is unique in its ability to self-administer healthy growth. Afghan is a very low-maintenance strain.
As a thick, heavy plant, Afghan also carries a thick, heavy smoke that can be likened to a velvety, full-bodied hash taste. A definite mind-numbing high if cared and cured for properly.

let me see if i can help you out a lil.. the floro tubes that you mentioned work great for vegging your one plant under.. leave them on for 18 hours a day, and of for 6... keep them about two to threee inches above your plant.. leave them like ths for atleast one month, more if you have plenty of room for the plant to get bigger..
once the plant is the hieght that you wish, you flip the lights to 12 on and 12 off to induce flowering.. for lighting in the flowering phaze, use some of the compact fluro's, the spiral kinds.. find the biggest actual wattage ones that you can.. make sure you read the actual watts and not the comparison wattage, this is very important.. get as many of the biggest watt ones that you can and place them all around your plant.. on the top, on both sides, etc.. you will want to use some of the 2700k bulbs, that is the color spectrum that you need to use for flowering..
don't use the incadescent bulbs at all, they are not good for growing..
just one word with the miracle grow.. a lot of people will talk smack about it and say that its not good, but it can be a decent soil with a lil attention on your part.. go to your local walmart or home depot and look for some dolemite lime... you want to add one cup of the lime to each bag of mg soil that you buy.. make sure that you mix the lime in well with the soil.. using the lime should help buffer the ph, which is where people have alot of problems with mg..
hope this points you in the right direction and gets you started.. if you have anymore ?'s, just ask...

you want to look at the actual watts not the equiv. that bulb is 68 watts. 2 or 3 of them per plant would work fine also i just kinda skimmed through so not sure if it was mentioned but if them seeds are not feminized i wouldnt suggest only growing 1 at a time.

well when you have feminised seeds you have a 90% chance they will be female, when they are regular seeds its more like 50% females.

really you would want to plant 2-3 just to be on the safe side then you can toss any males you may get. you might be lucky and have a good female ratio, but thats just a rough guide.

hope this helps.

This is what a 300 cfl looks like - bottom left

100w cfl min per plant, then an extra 50 for each plant. but I would say get an HPS lamp, a 250w would be ideal for 1 or 2 plants. Also, if you do go for cfl, look out for spectrum 2700 for flowering 4000 - 6500 cooler light - more for vegging. For my veg cab I generally go for a mix. Good luck.

ok heres my idea i searched for a while and its a preety dam good deal, heres my planned setup:

for $27.50 on the bulbs (not lamps) i can get:

two 32 watt (100 watt incandescent) 2700k
(link for bulbs <-- click here)
two 32 watt (100 watt incandescent) 5000k

and with this i can make a box (which i sort of have) put tin foil in it for reflection and plant 1-2 plants in there correct? i would also use this hydroponics system: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360178643997&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=WVF%3F&GUID=f16f60e21250a0e20506fe06f8ee8755&itemid=360178643997&ff4=263602_263622

for $63.95 each (free shipping)

and then im set right? excuses me if i left something out.

just try to start as many seeds as you can atleast 2 or 3. youll be awfully dissapointed in a month or 2 when you bud and end up having males and need to start over

Each seed in a seperate pot. As the peep above said, try to start a few seeds, not just one.
Soak the seed in a dark place for 24 hours (in a shot glass or something). Then put the seed in a bit of paper toweling and in a zip bag. Ensure the towelling is wet. Seal the bag and then put in a warm dark place. Within 24-48 hours the seed will have a tap root appear. Take the seed and put this in the soil (with the tap root facing down, seed facing up.) Then place under your strip lights (about 1-2 incheas away from light.)

Get at least 150 w of CFL's for 2 plants, so try and add perhaps 1 to each of those you mentioned.

Why spend $63 dollar on a hydro kit, just buy some coco or soil and do it ogranically if this is your first time. Perhaps easier and def cheaper (2 pots and some soil/coco)

Good luck and feel free to ask any Q's.

Peace, DST

thanks for the tip on getting the seed to come out of the shell... i always thought that once it has that one stem out of it's shell thats what you face up so it comes out of the soil faster... didnt know it was a root.. thats probuly why i lost one =/

but anyway check out my pics i posted on the supplies... im negotiating on hydroponics or soil but i already bought soil please tell me if its good for this cuz i read on another thread it is and if so what soil do i use first? (im guessing the seed starter) and the next set of soils.... i guess ill grow a few plants at a time but how do u know if they are male or female...

as to the hydroponics i found some on ebay for only $50 (choice of 4-8 plant hydroponics with no price change) with free shipping plus iv studied the forums a lot so thats why im debating wether to do it or not....i might of left something out but any bonus information on this topic will probuly answer it thanks
