growing multiple strains of peppers together??(cross polination?)

so i am about to start some indoor peppers. green chili peppers to be exact. i was thinking of growing more than one type of green chili pepper in there together. what effects will cross pollination have? and is there any way to avoid it? they would be in the same grow box. im thinking of just growing one strain at a time in separate areas to avoid it but idk what kind of effects it will have.

you can grow mild to extremly hot peppers next to each other and the mild plant won't get hot from being pollunated from a hot one, but the seeds will grow hot plants.

so are you saying that its mainly the seeds or next gen that will be effected?

Exactly. Only the next set of plants will be affected. I made this mistake outdoors years ago and the following season I had the hottest damn banana peppers ever!!! If you plan on using the seeds keep them as far away from each other as possible.

Whooooo. Ghost peppers huh? Hottest pepper in the world. I can say that pepper seed take a while to sprout and seem to be kinda slow growing. Don't get discouraged.

I just read this thread and had a thought ...

peppers are insect pollinated, or self pollinated ... so if you don't have insects in your indoor grow, you won't get any cross-pollination at all.

I've never grown peppers inside so I never looked in to how they pollinate. Nice info grumpy. id +rep ya but I'm new to riu and can't figure out how.

thanks for the info. i just germed some more and i dont plan to keep the seeds. they might not even cross though since they are self pollinated. i might start a journal even though its not MJ lol. iv read to germ the seeds in dirt but im doing it the only way i know how:bigjoint:

i was looking into cloning once they got bigger and then started thinking could the clone be affected if cross pollination was to occur? i dont think it could be but maybe one of you know a little more. but since the clone would be the exact same plant itself and not an offspring(seed) i dont think it could be affected. like if i had a mild chili pepper that crossed with a extremely hot chili pepper i could clone them with no problems? only the seed affected?

this makes me want to create my own hybrid pepper lol.

That would be sweet. Id imagine you're right that a clone wouldn't be affected. We only grow our veggies from seed since we don't do any inside.
