Growing in the Winter

Hey guys, I'm about to get my seeds and I'm really stoked about it but I had a few questions:

If I live in Southern California where we don't get any snow but occasional rain, less sun light (7am - 5ish pm) and night-time temperature's around 40 F

Do you think it's possible to grow? I'm thinking about growing a couple auto's as my first grow and I can only do guerrilla growing right now. If it's not possible I'll wait until the summer but I was just curious.

Any input is appreciated, first hand experience even more welcome.

Thanks!

Growth would be slowed due to the cool conditions. What does the day time temps get to? Auto flowers would be better due to the lack of light period... Although you might be better growing in the day outside.. Then moving to a garage or porch with a cfl for the evenings.

I'm living up north... And growing in a garage. My temps hit 10c/50f.

My garage is pretty warm, probably around 65 but even outside it'll fluctuate between 60 - 70. Sometime it's cloudy and it rains and sometimes we'll get a bit of sunlight and sometimes a lot of sunlight. Really depends, it's San Diego.

The problem is that I can't grow indoors because of roommate issues so my only choice is to hope that that auto's can withstand lack of light or wait until the summer.

Thanks, dr. tomb.

It is obviously less than ideal to plant them now, but summer is a long ways away. I can guarantee you that more seeds will be available in the spring so why not plant them and see what happens? That said, I would keep expectations low. The auto varieties yield small even under best conditions.

I grow year round.. last year I did a test to see if a cheap <15$ green house would work.. and it did..
Our temps here range from as low as 23 winter (no snow) to 115 in summer...
spent about 10$ on the sidewalk rebar material and about 2$ for the tarp.. I take the tarp off during the day once the sun is up..

You are growing auto flowering varieties in the winter? What sort of yield to you get on the winter harvest?

if your roots go below 60 your plant will fail
i learned this first hand this season , inside
yes there are some strains more resistant to temperature than others
but what youd have to do is put in something insulated, that the sun could warm up in the day time . Like a green house, try maybe a small one, almost like a cold frame

I was not using auto's

I used bubba kush - carmel- orange crush

what they looked like in feb

I was not going for yield this was merely a test to see if I could pass our winter...

i'd say each pant gave me a full mason jar + trim

bunch of pics here on the test

some harvest from 5-13

5-16-13 bubba kush top colla harvest...

revegged the Bubba Kush I grew over 2012 winter to 2013 fall harvest..

these were the test plant in 4-13

closest one is the bubba kush...

scrogged the Bubba Kush had about 30- 10 inch+ collas

That's pretty interesting, I'll have to go back and find the link to your report. I have never started a plant in a flowering light cycle. I don't see any signs of flowering in your Feb. shot but I imagine it went into flowering mode very early. Did it smoke quite a bit weaker than your summer grow? Thanks for sharing your experiment!

I took clones in flowering last year just to see if I was able to keep them alive.. I am not afraid of making mistakes.. lol esp if it saves me some $$ with a successful one..

I am weird.. honestly I dont feel the effects like most folks.. pretty much most of my strains are based on flavor and yield results.. even concentrates dont do much for me.. medibles on the other hand...

if you go back look at the pre 2013 albums.. I was lazy as crap in 2013 and paid for it.. only 15 jars..

2012 was 41 + trims
