Growing in a mini fridge?

SO I found out I have access to a spare mini fridge. I'm thinking of using this to grow. But this will be my first attempt and I have questions.

The fridge is about 2.5 feet high. I'm going to attempt to grow 2 plants in here.
Can someone suggest a light set up for me? I've read CFL would be a better light to use, so it doesn't get as hot as with an HPS. What wattage and how many bulbs should be used?

Also, as far as ventilation goes, if I'm keeping this in my garage, should I worry about controlling the smell with a carbon filter, or not worry about it for now? I've got a big garage, and this doesn't seem like a lot of vegetation.

For those of you who used a mini fridge, how did you cut through the back or top to install the fans? what tools did you need? I'm wondering if I can get by with a dremel, lol

iv never grown ina mini fridge befor, but i kno about small spaces lol pretty much the only thing u can use is cfls. hps/cmh lights need to be like 2 feet above ur plants, a mini fridge is only 2 feet tall period lol and u can fit 2 plants in there, it will b cramped, and they will touch each other but it wont b a problem. remember when you switch to flowering your plant will almost triple in size. and as for smell, totaly depends on your strain. i have 2 4 foot monsters in my closet and they dont smell one bit, but iv seen 9 inch tall plants that wreek up a storm. i would go with 42 or 23 watt cfls. 2 per plant, maybe 3 when they get bigger. start with 5600k for vegg, then switch to 2700k for flower. you can get these at any store. walmart, walgreens,k mart,etc.. hope this helps ya out a bit. good luck =D

Thanks for the advice. The bulbs you were talking about, would you suggest using reflectors with those, or can I get away with just mounting the bulbs in there?

Do I have to worry about any risk of it getting too warm? Last thing i want is to melt the plastic in the fridge and burn the house down while I'm at work or something.

NO. Cfls dont get very hot. Certainly not enough to burn it down. But you have to make sure everything is wired correctly because that could burn it down. Just have proper ventilation and you should be good to go.

Would I be okay with 2 45w CFLs and reflectors? I don't know if I could fit 4 in there, with reflectors. SHould I go higher wattage to save on space?

are u planning on having the fridge ON to cool it? u will need a exhaust and intake of fresh air, and i wouldnt run the fridge, its meant to keep cold, not keep sumthing kooling down.

yea man i use cardboard reflectors and iv had cfls rest up against it for days on end and didnt even burn it so i think your good there and 2 45 watters will b good untill the plants get like 5 inches tall probly, you can use y sockets to have 4 bulbs on 2 sockets. there like 1.99 at home depot or lowes. and with proper ventalation it shouldnt get to warm, and if it does just get a real small like3 inch handheld fan blowing on the bulbs or the plants.
