I did a seed grow once on Skunk#1. You can get hundreds to thousands of seeds. Is it worth it? Ask yourself how much your paying for seeds and do the math :)
You do need to let them go long enough so they mature. Chop to soon and you have a lot of seeds that won't grow. For a seed grow, I would just let the plant keep going until it starts dying of natural causes.
Pick the seeds out (that is a real fun job...NOT) and store as you would your bought seeds. I let mine dry in a paper bag for a week or two and then freeze them for future use.

Good luck!

P.S. Some of the fun of making seeds is to allow different strains that you like to cross pollinate. You just may come up with a unique strain.

depending on how you polinate you'll end up with 100's to 1000's of seeds per plant....it's way better to become self sufficient...one thing is if you serious about making seeds..do some research before you polinate your first plants...picking poor specimens to work with will dimish an already worked line....az

If i get seeds from nirvana is it good to use them to make seeds are they going to be from the same plant should you not do that

I second what the last guy said... if you don't want to buy any more seeds then keep cloning! Why waste time, space and money growing seeds? Especially if you have zero experience breeding!

we tried to do a little bit of a seed grow our last grow, but we harvested too early so the seeds are most likly worthless

Let your seeded plant grow until it starts to die on its own. Yes, it takes time and money to go that long but then you will have 100-1000 good mature seeds...Then save most, use some, and clone the shit out of them. If things happen and your grow goes to hell, you still have a but load of seeds to start over.
As stated, you only want the best female plant to be pollinated with the best make plant.
I would only keep seeds from a large plant and not from small or sickly looking ones. I don't have the knowledge to cross breed, but if you have a grow where a male gets loose and does its thing, keep the seeds from the best and largest plant and not the small sick looking ones. If you spot a good size male before it pops, pick a nice looking female and isolate them from your grow and let them do their thing.
Wash up, shower, and change your clothes if you get near an isolated male before ever entering your all female grow area. Pollen can and will hitch a ride on you.

check the sticky over in the advanced cultivation forum
you don't have to pollinate the whole plant, just a popcorn bud or 2
save pollen from a male and freeze dry it, it's part of the sticky
then use to pollinate a popcorn bud with a small painters brush

There's only one way to get experience breeding and that's by breeding.

Yes, and 2 + 2 = 4, but the guy said he wants to stop paying for seeds, not become a breeder. It sounds to me like this guy doesn't know enough about cloning to understand that he won't have to pay for seeds if he learns how to clone.
