Growing Cheese Plants In A Closet

hey all,

ok so ive germinated 3 seeds and planted them in a fairly decent sized closet (about 3ft x 3ft x 6ft high)

one is just a seedling about an inch high and the others are just starting to take root

just using a standard light at the moment as space and cash are at a premium...

any advice would be appreciated,is it ok to grow using just a standard lightbulb considering its such a relatively short growing area?...and also,is there anything i should know about growing cheese? thanx

thanx..appreciate u taking the time to post man...yeh they are incandescent :( but the plants are growing?...

i know a fair amount about growing as my brother has plants growing regularly...

can i not use incandescent light? if so,why not?

i can buy cfl light bulbs in a while if u reccomend it

Incandescent are too hot for their light output. Yea you HAVE to have CFLs if you want any sort of real results...

ok.ill change the bulb asap...how many do u reckon i would need?,is two good enough for growing and flowering?

my brother knocked over one of the recently planted germinated seeds about 30 mins ago and it went all over the floor

(im sickened)

best i could do was collect the soil and put it back in :/

hopefully it will still grow (ru listening jeebuz?)

at least my dealer has a bag for me to collect later, this comforts me...

Two will get you through 2-3 weeks of veg growth. I have eight on my plant right now. You want about 80-100W per square foot of plant growth when working with CFLs. 13W bulbs aren't worth the time, 20 and 40W bulbs are the most efficient, bigger ones will put out more light but not be as efficient in terms of lumens/watt. You want 6500K bulbs for veg and 2700K bulbs for flower, there is a big difference. Check out this guide:

And tell your brother to be careful, haha.

Read and take advice, but mostly do whatever you want :) its how I'm figuring out what's best for me on a budget while gaining crazy experience sorting out issues as they come. I recommend experimentation before a serious grow. I'm just now getting close haha. I plan to flower one or two this week after 5 months of hell (errm. experience ) :)

i can tell you something about growing cheese ........if you get them to flowering stage ( and even in veg ) they are gonna stink your house up like a mother fucker , if you need to be stealthy then cheese wasnt a good strain to pick , coz believe me , if you have proper cheese , then they absolutely stink throughout the grow , but saying that ,a good ventalation setup with a good carbon filter will help you a lot , and is an absolute MUST , unless of course you are completely legal and dont give a fuck about the smell , if so then good luck to ya and you should end up with some really nice smoke .

hey all...thanx for the replies :)

just to update you on the situation the 3 plants are really starting to take off now...growing from seed is slow and im happy to see rapid progress now
they are about 5/6 inch high now and even the one that was let drop has grown, which surprised me

i changed the light source to cfl, only have one bulb going atm but its close to the plants and they seem to be going well under it

no sativa id say ur correct on the smell but luckily i dont have to be too stealthy about growing,i just chose the closet option as it was best for limited space and easy to manage

on the one that im prolly gonna choose for the mother,it is a fine plant from what i can see...is really taking off growing wise and i can already see the pre flowers? i.e like the two little hairs at the junction of the stems...pretty sure that they are all females :)

ill take a couple of pics with my camphone in a lil bit and try post them up on here so you guys can see for yourselves

Do whatever you want?No wonder it took you 5 months to get a plant to flowering stage.OP please don't listen to this idiot. Take good advice, read up on growing, and don't overthink it.

EDIT.. just looked at your pics and there way stretched. Plant some of that stem in the soil and get some cfl's on there asap before your plant falls over.Plus what's with the trellace??

update on this,i did what u said villa and planted some of the stem in...plants are pretty robust now...the first has grew well and is alot bigger than the other two...the one that got a bad start is still kinda small tho...im wondering when to start flowering? what do you guys reccomend? was going to start in the middle of next month, november 14/15 say?

will upload more pix in a bit....thanks
