Make sure to check the PH best for the type of berry. for instance blueberry's like 4.5-5.5 (if memory is on my side, don't quote me)

I'm growing berries this year.. Just started them a month ago.... 3 blueberrys and 1 blackberry... all in large 10 gal-15 gal pots with 40% perlie, 60% Fox farms ocean forest and about 6 tablespoons of sulphur to bring that pH down...
They are doing fantastic, I heard they are slow to grow but they totally took off in the sunlight in favorable weather... They grow a great color too...
I hear that you want to really establish your berry plant before you start letting them fruit... This is why I'm pruning all flowers forming on my blueberrys and not expecting any harvest until NEXT season
. Should be worth it though! I hear blueberry bushes mature at around 15 years.
I'm doing the same for some of my pepper plants too.. Letting them get nice and big before they start producing fruits.. No dilly dallying
