Grow Tent Too Hot!!!

Ok guys I appreaciate the input but remeber i am basically riding the temps out side and last night it hit 49 f so if i didnt have all that heat the plants would b goners also during the 2-3 hour span where it is too hot to run the 400 watt i just turn it off and leave the t-5s running and BAM!!! 70-80 temps
Way to go problems solved!

Sounds like you don't have proper ventilation in your tent to begin with. What fan are you using for extraction? I take it you're doing a standard inline fan as exhaust pulling from the carbon scrubber with a passive intake to result in the negative pressure you want in a ventilated tent?

Turning off lights when it gets too hot is not a solution, you need to figure out the root of the issue and correct the environment instead of trying to apply a bandaid fix.

Yes i am running 2 6" vortex fans inline and exhaust inline with a filter because im taking in outside air because i am currently forced into a shed and recently havnt had to switch the lights off at all so its been workin well. I dont have a cf and I have no money to invest into one at the moment but i do realize where my grow is located in socal and outside in a shed that i will either be outside growing in the summer or running an ac with just the t-5s

Your gonna have to cut some holes no matter what light you use unless you seal it up. You don't want to pull your intake from the same area you exhaustinG you need fresh air. And if your having trouble with the temps at night just what till the lights ate off for 12 hours straight. A oil filled radiator will take care of that i recommend delongie or hope ever is spelled. You can't cut corners or you will have top deal with problems

You need to have passive intakes that cover double the surface area of your exhaust (if you're using 2 6" Vortex fans, you need a total of 24" of surface area for passive intake if you intend to achieve negative pressure -- you're going to want that carbon scrubber soon). You could do two big 12" holes, four 6" holes, whatever you prefer, but that's the basic formula for surface area of intake vs. exhaust.

I guess I didn't really read well enough before, but to clarify, are you saying that you have a plastic shed and then a tent inside of the shed? Even if you left the 400w out completely and just stuck with your current setup you would never be able to achieve a quality end result without some fresh air circulating.

One option you might consider if you just plain can't modify the shed itself is to run a completely sealed room with supplemental CO2. These generally run in the 80-90 degree range for optimal results and a true sealed room does not technically require any access to air outside of the immediate grow space. With that said, you're going to spend some money to do that as well.

All of the equipment works i have never heard of 800 watts being too much for a 4x4 expecially when people run 1000 watts ez in here and about the ballast and the bulb well long story short I had a 600w hps with cool tube and dimmer wasnt growing for a while so lent it to my cousin up north then i ask for it back and he gives me his old shitty 400 watt mh/hps bulbs and that crappy ballast you guys see in the pics should see the setup required for that mother
Why not just get a cooltube image.jpg80 buck get a new hood

He doesn't have any fresh air to draw from, a cool tube would not really help with his current situation
Passive intake if u have fan in tent will draw from the floor hot air rises so would cool the tent exhaust out the top draw from the floor it would help no hot air from light directly on the plants

Ok so i have one 6" fan drawing air from outside the shed via a hole that i made. I put a filter on it so dont worry that is covered. I have one 4" hole for passive intake besides the fan blowing outside air inside the tent. I have the other fan exhausting air from the tent and it is duct to the otherside of the intake inside the shed. As for the cool tube and i thought about it im i could draw in cooler air for now but come summer im gonna be drawing nothing but like 100 degree weather. With this setup i have been highest 89 lowest 65. If anyone has any suggestions to make this setup better plz advise always open to new ideas! Also i know i need a carbon filter but money is tight for now i will get before the month is over though.

could you install a small window ac unit perhaps you might be able to find a cheap used one, that would solve any heat issues just have to pipe it into your tent then that wouldn't be too hard. I got the same problem just different circumstances so I'm actually gonna hold off till I can get an LED light plus I have to do a little more snooping around because I believe my outtake fan is not flowing right which would cause stagnant heat. I got an idea what I can do though to solve it. Good luck with your issue dude I know it can be very frustrating specially since you got babies already trying to make their way. That's why I'm holding off until I get issues figured out then I plan on letting her rip!

Ya lesson learned finish checking all issues with grow space. And ya a bad exhaust would be very bad causing it to get very hot in there with a light. I also just switched my grow from a 24 hour light cycle to an 18/6 so that the middle part of the day when it is the hottest lights r off and i am exactly equal with outside temps which are around highs of 84 best i can do for now. Summer grow is too far away to invest in the ac unit already.

I would think that you'd be ok at 84 MJ has been growing outside for a long time at much greater temps than that and still thrive so 6 degrees outta the parameters shouldn't be too detrimental on your babies. They do sell those little CO2 pouches at growace.com the big one is $46 if I remember right this might help too. My grow is on hold till I figure shit out and get an LED gotta have it. I'm glad your grow is doing ok with the heat being a little high.

I thought i should update my grow since ive been lazy recently on the posts so here is the first tent with two madman og vegged 3 and half weeks and now they are 3 and half weeks into flower average temps in both rooms run from 72-84
