Hey ya'll. so i got myself a grow tent size 80x80x160. and i'm about to grow 3-6 plants.
got to know how much watts of HPS/HM should i get. i was thinking about 400w. but a friend of mine told me 600w is much better.

So about 3x3x5? 400w would be good, but 600 would be better. that being said, can you get rid of the heat? if heat is not a problem, go with 600.

a 600 watt light gives the best bang for the buck out of all of them. as dirt power said, get rid of the heat, cool tube or similar. I run 3 of them in my 6.5x6.5 tent and air cool all three. best lumen per dollar spent.

I'm thinking AIR cooled would be the way to go, I have cool tube because I jumped the gun before I knew all the pros and cons...not saying cool tube is bad or anything, but from what I think I now understand is that air cooled would be better. just saying.

Cool tubes are air cooled. I have a 400 watt hps in a cool tube with an extractor fan in a 24x48x60 tent and my temps stay 75- 78 degrees.

Gonna have to exhaust dude! a fan will be fine for air movement, but your gonna have to exhaust the heat! 600 will produce a LOT of heat!

Just to let you all know, I'm new to indoor growing...just not new to growing pot... this is a new ball game to me...very different rules so to speak.

I'm a farmer first and everything just fall's into place...being a farmer requires a little understanding of all this in the first place, just a few tweaks gets things right....but one thing I know for sure! is that, no matter how much you think you know...you will never know everything!!!!...thus the need for the forums, I still need to learn a LOT!

True, but air cooled and cool tube are just a little bit different in there make up, cool tube is just a tube around the light, air cooled has a glass lid covering the bottom of the reflector. Not sure if it really makes a difference or not, some say cool tube creates hot spots and that the air cooled doesn't...all I know is that I'm too new to indoor growing the know for sure ...yet!
