yo people..

ive been planning to fit a grow tent in my bedroom sizing at (100cm x 100cm x 180cm h) and am just posting to get general advice, suggestions and opinions as its my first time..

im living in a well furnished apartment on the 9th floor and my bedroom has more than enough space to fit the size tent that im looking at. i also have a balcony that comes off one side of my room with sliding doors that could possibly help ventilation?

i want to know basically how many plants i would be looking at fitting into the size of my tent to get a decent yield (will be using soil from start)... also some advice on general ventilation and what type and power of light and nutrients i will be looking at..

look forward to hearing from you guys cheers

You could probably get 4-5 decent sized plants in that thing. I would say look at getting a 400W HPS for Flower (htgsupply.com), and just using some 6500k (daylight) 26 or 42W bulbs for vegging or side lighting while in flower. Go to that site and look around. Everyone on here will attest to how legit they are. They also have pretty good prices on almost everything. For nutes, a lot of people just like Fox Farms, but this is all up to you.

Good luck. bongsmilie

i was thinking of putting a 600watt at first into the 1m x 1m x 180cm tent and trying to fit around 7-8 plants..i looked at someones journal with a slightly wider tent of 120 x 120 x 200 and he managed to fit around 10 plants using a 400watt hid so im still abit undecided...ino im def gna take ur advise on using 1 400watt hid and try fox farms nutes...

anyone how much space should i be leaving between the plants roughly for the size of tent im using? also isit worth using an air extractor?

How many plants you can fit in there all depends on the plants....if you are going with one that becomes a wide bush or if you have a slimmer plant. With slimmer plants like the Whiteberry or California Dream you could get 9 and not overcrowd them. Wider busher plants maybe 4 and exchanging the air is always a great ideal. Do you have a carbon filter?

600w is alot of heat. I have a 600w HPS inside of a DR120 tent, and the heat is sometimes a problem.
The 400w will be much cooler and plenty of light and you can still grow a fair amount of smaller plants.

i see..i was thinkin of gettin 10 feminized amnesia seeds to start off with and then eventually cut it down to around 6 7 plants to give them enough space..im not too sure if amnesia grows tall and slender or short and wide.. if anyone knows or has much experience with this strain then give me a shout.... yea im defo gonna buy a carbon air filter but shud that be used from the beginning of the process or at the start of flowering?

Agree, you won't gain much more for having to contend with that extra heat. 400 watts is very easy to manage.

Amnesia Haze is a sativa, so it can grow very tall (too tall) if you don't keep it under control
and flower it early (No longer than 3 weeks veg). They take a very long time to flower, like 3 months.
A good indica would stay under 3 ft and would give you a faster, bigger yield. If you go with
Somas Amnesia Haze, the wait will be worth it, but be prepared to tie it down or bend it to control the height.

Depends on the strain, but you might need the filter all the way through. Some strains smell even in veg.

I have a 4'x4'x7' tent with ten plants flowering with a 600watt HPS. As long as you use an enclosed hood with a high powered fan such as a vortex blowing through and a can fan intake with an ac going you would be fine. i maintain temps between 78 and 80 degrees and my plants are nice and bushy.

I'm sorry gentlemen...

I have to disagree with you guys here...

I made a tent... 20"x36"x54"/51cmx91cmx137cm.. 600 HPS in a cool tube and ZERO heat issues.. much less a fire hazzard...

If you ventilate properly...

As for the difference between the 400w and the 600w...

If you use the "a decent grower gets 1 gram per watt" rule of thumb, the difference is about 200 grams...

not to talk that a 600 has way more INTENSITY of light, making bigger denser buds... in fact better quality...

I say that a 400 will give awesome results...

but a 600 will give better buds and more of it per harvest...

But that's just my opinion...

I only used my tent once before I got a whole room to myself...

and my previous experience was 1 grow in the Aerogarden...

Today I have an op that puts out an oz a day... so I do have something to back my knowledge beyond what I read...

Here is a link to the tent I built...

Hope it helps...

No doubt GypsyBush, a 600w will produce alot more and better quality than a 400w. Your experience is a testament to that!
A 600w is more efficient, and you get nearly double the intensity for only 50% more watts over the 400w. I only suggested the
400w because of heat concerns and possibly space limitations. From my experience, a 600w can also be quite a bit harder to
cool than the 400w, so it's a trade off.

BTW, what kind of set up are you running to get an ounce a day?

Well... it CAN be...

but if you design the ventilation system without skimping out...

You can honestly fit a 600 anywhere you can fit a 400...

Sure the 4" fan that barely cools the 400 won't cool the 600...

But get the 6" fan and it will...

I can have my plants touch the glass... that's 6" from the 600w bulb...

to me, over-ventilation has all kinds of benefits...

Right off th bat you have cooler temps...

then, since you are -over fanned... you can use a speed controller to tone it down a notch...

A fan running at 80% power is 50% quieter... and uses less energy that a little fan balls out, which is also loud...

It also gives you precise control of the temperatures and airflow...

When the name of the game is to DIAL IN YOUR OP, precise control is priceless...

And then there is the CASH issue...

Buy big and do not upgrade..

ALL of the stuff I used in that tent is in use in my op today...

No junk laying around...

UPGRADING IS EXPENSIVE AND WASTEFUL...

Buy the right shit the first time and make it the last time you buy it...

It;s just my opinion though...

People need to look at the efficiency of their grows more that just the initial cost of the equipment...

Cheap grows put out some of the most expensive buds out there... but they are cheap to start...

on the other hand...

The working stiff growing to save on buying...

that dude needs to make his money streeeetch...

he needs to produce the best buds possible at the lowest possible cost to him...

not shitty buds that cost more than buying off the dealer...

I vote for the end all of tents/cabs...

a little personal op, but on steroids...

a little closet op that gives you buds like the big boys grow...

and at the cheapest possible price...

My tent cost me 1k with everything and I had change for an ice cream...

That light and those fans have paid for themselves over and over and over... and I get to go have ice cream anytime now... stoned as hell...

Sorry I'm high...

rambling...

I hope it makes sense though..

the more precisely you can control the environment, the better your buds will be...

Oh... and you can click on my signature, but I run an Al B. Fuct style SoG of with 48 single cola lollipops under 600HPS x 4

Some days are better than others but my average is about a zip a day...

I've been doing this for 7 months...
