Grow tent questions

So, I think I might be ready to run...

I have 4x4 tent,
1000watt Jupiter 6inch hood,
Apollo 4.0 dimable ballast,
6 inch 400cfm fan outside tent
Pulling air out of the tent through the hood
Exhausting out a window

So my plan is to put 12 clones in the tent under the MH
For about a week, until flipping to 12&12. Now for my questions,

1. how far is your glass from hood above canopy?

2. I have mine 2ft from where the canopy would be, it's 85°Right there, is the light too far(causing too much stretch)? And is 85° too hot

3. I have the mh set to 1k
And it's running 85° 2ft away from where the canopy would be, should I be running it at 1k for better vegetative growth,
Or 600 for cooler temp?

4. I don't have a Charchol filter hooked up will this damage hood or light ?

5. The only way it's staying 85° is with two of the vents at the bottom of tent open.
Is this what all you tent farmers do? Or should it be cooler with em closed?
The negative pressure is insane with all the vents closed....

Any info is great!!!image.jpg

Clones? 1000 w? 2 feet above it? 85 degrees at canopy? New bulbs?

Yes, too close. Id get that 1000w way up. Personally id put it to the top of the tent and let the plants grow to it. Its 1000w with a digital ballast. You shouldnt be hurting for light. And id veg for an extra week just cause ;)

Thank you for your input !!!

So you'd raise that baby up
Huh

First indoor grow &
I'm stoked!! I've
Been researching and Savin $$$$ to make this happen for some time!!

put the light at the top of the tent. 85° is no problem. 12 plants in a 4x4 will get crowded but you are also running a short veg time so it might not be so bad. 1000W should do pretty well in that size tent. you will see growing weed is easy as long as you dont fuck with shit to much.

Clones don't need much light until they've rooted. They can't really use light until they grow roots and begin taking in nutrients. I'd suggest using a florescent light for them. It would save some MH bulb life, reduce temps, and save you some electricity until the clones can really use the higher intensity MH light.

Get your carbon filter, but don't install it until your plants begin to smell. Pulling even mostly-clean air through the filter shortens its life.

Also remember to choose your filter based upon the CFM of your exhaust fan.

I think you may have heat problems blasting that 1k in a 4x4 w/ one fan. Especially if you switch to hps for flower. You're digital so you've got that to help if you need to dial it down just a bit. Heat accumulates over time, even if you move most of it out. It would help if you could draw your hood air from outside the tent, but you've also got to eventually hook your filter up as well. So, get a small intake as @redeyedfrog suggested. Keep in mind you'll want to keep negative pressure in the tent, so don't overpower your exhaust. You'll lose airflow and odor control. Keep your vents open at the bottom, that's where your fresh air comes in. I have 2 open in the day & close one at night when the fans slow down.

Got 1 og kush clone
Watered it an put it in the tent
With the MH about 2.5 feet above plant temps Getting no hotter than 82 the clone is now sagging down?
A great deal
Anyone know why?image.jpg

I dunno if you already raised your light to the top of the tent, but I would if I were you

My suggestion if you said you have a thousand watt dimmable, dim it to 500 watts then lower your light to 14-20 inches above the canopy and do 24/0 especially since you're vegging for such a short time, and that will help you get your temperatures back in the preferred range for best results anything over 80°f is too hot.

image.jpg So here is an update &
The plant doesn't seem to be getting any better.

The leaves feel kinda firm < idk if that helps
& also the ventilation seems to be drying up the top part of soil pretty fast
Can't figure out why it looks like this...

I'm wondering if it got too much nutrients ?
I know the soil I'm using has a small amount and I gave a very small dose of earth juice sugar peak 1 part veg when I put it in the soil

Temps are 78-76
I just can't figure it out.

Glad I only got 1 instead of the 12 I had planned on doing

I would water it with epsom salt mixed in the water, it might help. I would also put the light at the top of the tent and run it at its full wattage. If you have a pedistal fan going, make sure its not blowing directly on the plant.

I would probably hit it with a light!! dose of nutes too when ya water it with the epsom salt water. finally, call it names like a lil dirty slut and shit like that. That will make it love you more and snap out of being a droopy lil bitch.

You are going to have heat problems in that 4x4 w/ 1000w light. The goal with a tent is to keep the temp on the inside as close to the outside of the tent as possible. What are the room temps that the tent is within? I think it would be hard to keep the temps within 10 deg of the outside. Raise the light to the top, turn the ballast to 50% and leave the plant alone, let the dirt dry out before you water again, and don't really use any nutes, if anything a root conditioner like roots excel or even zone work awesome for young plants. You have to get the roots growing. If it's constantly wet, the roots won't grow, looking for water/nutes. Also, if it's too warm in the room the tent is within, create another intake from outside and just run ducting into the tent, no need for an intake fan, the one you have in the room will pull in plenty of air. My tent was a little warm at 80 deg, about 5 above the room itslef, I ran passive ducting from outside and just pointed it at the bottom opening (keep them all open in a 4x4, it will always have negative pressure with that cfm fan running) You have to find a way to get cool air into the tent or the room itself that the tent is within. I was able to get my tent within 1 deg of the room its within (2x 600w)

Top = exhaust out from tent
Middle = passive intake fresh cold air
Bottom = extra carbon filter for room the tent is within

Just to note, the exhaust goes into a window well, the passive intake is actually a 'snorkel' that pulls in cool air from outside the window well. I have it running into a tub that sits on top of the window grate, otherwise the air in the window well is too hot to use as intake too.

Passive intake, cold air. The fan in the tent is powerful enough to pull in plenty of fresh air, no need for intake fan too. (at this point at least)
