Grow Tent Off Gassing Australia

High temps kill plants anyway. I am running 400W in 20"x36". That's 11,000 lumens per sq ft. First couple of days the tent smelled like plastic but I ran my tent for a week before I put a plant in it. No plastic smell at all anymore. Exhaust is the key. Even if the plastic continues to offgass small amounts over time if you are removing the air with a fresh supply intake I don't see how it would be that big of deal.

They certainly needed to be changed and I applaud the manufacturers who did the voluntary recalls but I just think too much is made of it.
to much is made of it,what are you saying if off gassing kills your plants no big deal, dont sweat it,im telling people dont bye them period.and ive had high temps many times, plants dont like it but it does not kill like off gassing.if you want to bye a tent made of pvc and keep it open fine, but most people bye them for keeping closed,i bought mine for breeding to keep pollen in,but when you do not have to bye pvc made in china tents why would you.why would you even suggest to people they should just keep them open and used air cooled, why not tell them not to bye the crap at all.untill you have lost all your breeding stock, then you can say too big of a deal is made of it,i took the time to read your journal after seeeing offgassing, and i took the time to tell you what it was,now please dont tell people it is okay to bye plant killeing tents.

I had fantastic ventiliation and my tent never smelled at all... However every single plant put into the tent was yellow within the week. Plants outside the tent under the same conditions bloomed.

ether you get lucky or you dont.. i have lost months trying to get a grow out of my tent... took them out an all the sudden they are starting to grow.
all of the white pvc tents are made in china, their is only one plant that has the expertise to melt them together, and all of the pvc tents that come from china come from that plant, and they have all been prooven to kill plants,i lost everything,i thought i had damping off,i thought root bugs,i though cold,i though humidity,i thought cal/mag def i thought iron def,5 months later my dog wouldnt go near it not even for a t-bone,that was when i chucked it,voila everything is growing like weeds,we over complicate it when it is only a weed and takes alot to kill it.i even had headaches for a few months,no more.

i decided to chuck a plant that was to far gone,i took it out of the tent and left it in a corner, heck i didnt give it light even, and a week later it looked ready rarin to go,the ones in the tent were all dead by then,i thought it has to be the tent, but the owner told me no,they sold 100,s.well the tent was the killer, and just like doogleefs plants earlier in his journal mine were like that but got worse, sad i didnt smell it but my dog sure did, never went near it.but i used t5,s first before the hps,the heat went from 20 to 24 degrees and rapid death.the t5s just gave them a slow death.

Sounds just like me! hahaha

It's a miracle I havent given up till now...

I couldnt figure it out for months... i tried every different combination of advice, nute schedules, watering shcedules.

On the bright side, there were probably many problems i might have faced down the road, mould, bugs, ph, nutes, salts in coco, ligh ventilation that now i know are perfect

ya you learn alot,i bought so much junk like cal/mag,damping off stuff a few more heat mats a humidifer,hydrozyme,b1 and a host of other stuff i never used before thinking it would help,it was all a waste of money.im back too just the basic nutes and panda plastic and all is fine.

T-5s will have no major effect. Its HID lighting and PVC that causes offgassing.

High temps wont kill your plants. Not like an offgassing tent.

Doogleaf your 400w light only puts out around 50 000 lumens. About Half of what a 600w puts out. And every 12" it loses half of that intensity.

If you threw a 600w or a 1000w in there it would start offgassing again, and eventually when it stops offgassing all the white PVC that lines your tent will start to flake and fall off.

We are not saying you can't make a cheap ass offgassing tent work. But why bother? Why not just get a proper tent and not have to deal with it ever.

:peace:

I don't know anything about offgassing, I thought it had to do with the glue used to bond the PVC to the tent.
Anyway I bought the Mylar tent just in case and I haven't had any problems.
I got the 6'6" x 6'6" x 6'6" (1.95m squared) for AU$270 and there's a 1.2m square one for AU$170. on ebay au, you'll pay twice that in the shops.

I went with the white one over the mylar one because of the extra vents. Of couse, now that I have it I'm not running the same exhaust scheme I had in my head when I bought it so the extra ports are not used. lol. Oh well.

I'm not saying it is not a problem and that the mylar ones are not a better choice.
What I am saying is that at least half the trouble that I have seen blamed on off-gassing could easily be explained by other environmental issues. I can see maybe a larger HID right against the wall might be a problem or even just the heat created but my tent has been 90F with no ill effects.

that is were people run into problems, thinking it is other enviromental issues,i just say dont by the white pvc and dont worry,i never had a problem for years, then everyone said change this change that, yet the only thing differant was the tent, the guy still sells them on ebay after admitting to offgassing, hes a crook, that if he was standing in my liveing room would be on the floor in the time it takes for a heart to beat once.

Well i can say I am 100% positive offgassing was killing my plants.

4 grows all dead within 2 weeks. Each time i tried something different. the last grow started yellowing in the same way as previous grows after which I dismantled the tent.

They are still growing in the same wardrobe, same 400 watt light, same air con (summer here and its HOT) same ventilation, same space, same fans, same water, same nutes, same PH. The only difference is the tent is missing and they are now growing perfectly.

Wait ... you had a tent inside a wardrobe? Got a journal?

nope but i got some pics!

That is how it looked before i removed fan and put it in the roof, to the right is a portable air con that you can't see flowing cool air into the tent. I also now have the plants off the floow in better pots on a rack with a flood & drain container, clip on fan and most importantly a tempered glass light hood to keep the light much cooler.

can i please ask who the ebay seller was? i'm currently hassling the guy i bought my tent off about these same issues. the tent was labelled as PE and not PVC, therefore no gassing (so the ebay page says) mines a 1.2x1.2x2m white lined ezitent from discount hydroponics

I ordered this one on ebay.com "Product Code: GYO1002" it was difficult to assemble because a reterd made up the directions. There were 8 sections of pole labeled "B", four of them were 6" longer than the other four. It took me a while to figure this out and I accidentally ripped the tent because when I assembled the poles they were 6" too long. It has a strong plastic smell. On the first day I put the plants in the tent four out of six showed signs of over fertilization. The leaves curled upward at the tips, eventually the edges of all leaves died and it spread to the whole leaf. Does this sound like PVC toxicity? bongsmiliebongsmiliebongsmiliebongsmilieSeller "gyosupplies" does not accept returns.
