go to htgsupply.com you can get a great setup for anywhere from $95 for an hps 400 watt to $280 for an electronic ballast hps/mh 600w. with all that work put into a box it would be a waste to use floros. also get a hood that lets a ducting hook up to both ends(forgot what its called) that sucks all the hot air out and lets you use a co2 system

So I've been reading the GROWFAQ a lot lately... Do you guys think the Screen of Green method would be a good idea for me?

classclown, he is talking about the color of the bulb. The lower end of the Kelvin scale (2700K) is for flowering and the higher end of the scale (6500K) is for veg. I think you are thinking of lumens and I think around 6,000 lumens per square foot would be a good range to shoot for. Hope I helped

Sorry to butt in to this thread but how does one determine how many KELVIN their bulb is?

I have a 42w (150w equiv) at 2700 Lumens. It doesnt mention kelvin on it.

It's cool lol. Usually somewhere on the package there should be a number with a k next to it. (2700k for example)

The Kelvin rating is the color temperature of the bulb. A light bulb with an orange yellow color light is usually at the lower end of the spectrum (2700K). If your bulb is more of a white color light it is at the higher end of the spectrum (6500K). Lower end of the scale is usually called warm white, while the higher end is called cool white or daylight. Hope that helped.

I think a scrog would work real good for your setup.

Yea, we will see. I think I'm just going to let them veg for a while and see what I think. I have like 4-5 babies above dirt now. I'll post some pics tomorrow of what I have so far. Thanks for all the feedback, I really appreciate it all. :joint:

Another question... I was at walmart last night looking at chemicals and I found pH plus and minus. The question is can I use the same shit that they use for swimming pools? Or do I need a special kind only for plants? If so where do I get it at?

I'm not really sure on that one cc. I have a three in one meter that measures light, moisture, and pH. I think you would be alright though with the pool stuff if I had to guess. Do you have a pH meter?

Nah.. I checked the whole package. Thats where I came up with the "it doesnt say". It has ZILCH with a k after it.

I cant tell which color. It's just really bright. It doesnt say warm, cool, or daylight. Haha. Maybe I will take a pic of the package

If the light looks slightly orange then it's probably around 2700k. If it looks more white or blue then it's probably around 6500k.

Hey classclown. How many 42 watt cfl's do you plan on buying? They run 8 bucks a piece at wal-mart. Let's say if you bought 10 then you're looking at $80. There's a guy on ebay selling refurbished ballasts and new 400 watt hps lights for 60+25 shipping. That would produce way more bud. Or if you want to stick with the cfl's then you could order some off of a hydro website. They have 125 watt cfl's for 20-30 i think. That would give you more lumens. 10,000 lumens with the 125 watt or 2700 lumens with the 42 watt? More lumens give bigger bud and lumens don't stack. Just throwing in my 2 cents b/c I wasted a lot of money on wimpy lights.

Hope it helps, happy growing :)

Thanks for the input, my friend and I have been thinkin about buying a high intesity light for the fact that you get better yeilds. But, can you veg plants decently with this kind of light?

Yup you can veg plants fine with an HPS and veg even better with a metal halide. You can get switchable ballasts that can use an MH for veg and an HPS for flowering.

Where ya at man I'm used to you replying a lot faster haha.

Sorry man, I've been pretty busy the last couple days. I'm glad you guys are still posting on here for me.:blsmoke:

I have like 7 babies now... So I'll make sure to post some pictures later tonight. 2 of them are a week old, the other ones are like 3-5 days old. They're growing pretty slow though since we only have the baby floro tube above them.

UPDATE: Finally lol. Sorry I haven't been replying much lately. Here are some pics of the babies. I'm having a little trouble though, I'm not sure if it's a ph problem or watering. But, I've lost a couple. They just fall over and die lol. But a couple of them are doing ok. I will be getting a ph tester and new cfl's tomorrow so hopefully that will make a difference.

Same plant..

Plant 2: Not lookin too hot.

Plant 3:

Plant 4: Two plants in one pot.
