Grow Questions

Hey guys, im new to the growing scene but i had a few questions that id love answers to.

Ive got a plant thats growing indoors in some miracle grow soil in a large 1 gallon plastic pot. I originally started it in a smaller plastic pot but transplanted it. The light im using is a bit weak, its one of those flood light bulbs with the blue wavelength lights, 120w. i know its weak but im going abroad soon and dont feel like investing heavily in a new lighting system.
anyways my plant is probably about 4 inches high or so, it has a number of 3 pointed pairs of leaves, about 5 of those, and i pulled off its initial leaf sets as they dried out and died.
here are my questions
1. will the weak lighting fail to produce bud? or will it simply take longer to grow. if so, do any of you know how long i should expect the growing to flowering to harvesting process to take?
2. When do you know when it is the right time to make the switch in lighting to go from growing to flowering? is there some kind of change i should look for that occurs on the plant? or is it simply my choice to decide when to switch?
3. finally, how important is ventillation for these plants? Im growing it in a small storage closet that is about 3'x3' and about 8' tall. theres ample room but no ventillation. i put the plant on my balcony to get it real sunlight every day for about 6-8 hours.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out, I really appreciate it.

1. yes & no, you will get bud, just not as much as you would want. but, it can also, slow your growth, trust me, mine went through that & is now growing faster than ever, with my new CFL's (i didn't want to spend money on lights, but, spending DOES, help your plant) flowering can happen whenever you wish, it just depends on how much bud you're talking about.

2. i would say, you need to upgrade lights ASAP! my plant took 40 days to get to 6 leaves. (i was using a 13W work light) & now, with 2 100W CFLs, my plant grew 4 leaves at once. so, i would say, UPGRADE ASAP!

3. i don't know about this one, sorry. but, ventilation is important. it strengthens the stem.

good luck

you can get 4x 23w CFL's from walmart for 8 bucks.

this is enough light to successfully grow a plant! the light you have now will grow it but it will be thin and spindly and the buds will be tiny and light and fluffy.

thanks for the help guys. ill definitely look into those cheap lights at walmart...how long would an average plant take under cfls?

it all depends on the lumens
you have to know, your grow space
the size of it & how much lumens you will need
but, CFL's work, it has for a lot of people, it did for me
you can use splitters, that's how i'm doing it

2 100W CFL's on 1 splitter, works perfectly fine for me

i want to say, yeah, but, seriously, i don't know
for cheap & easy to find supplies, i go to home depot... lol

EDIT
4 100W CFL's (2PACK) = less than $8
1 SPLITTER = less than $3

^ that's what i bought & i paid $10.75, exactly

wow. I took your advice and bought 4x 23w cfl lights and set them up directly on the plant. i also have 3 20w cfls overhanging and helping my little plant grow. i can already see the difference it makes, i wish i had checked on this earlier as i could have had quite the grow by now. no worries, this was my first time and i expected to make many mistakes. next time im sure i will be more successful in my endeavors, especially since i already have the lights required. anyways, thanks for the help, ill keep yall posted

^ nice!!!
lighting, makes a whole lot of difference, lol

i think my plant, is heading down towards defeat... :(
she's droopy... the bottom, lower leaves, are weak...
but, the top, is still holding their own...

anyway, good luck, to your new growth!!!
hope, all is well :)
