Grow Light Advice

Hello all, noob here again
I plan on growing 2 to 3 plants and put them in a 4 X 2 tent (if that’s big enough). Would a light like the one pictured work for what I want to do ?
Would it work for one plant only ?
Your advice would be great

I actually started with a "blurple" light like you picked out. I created a thread similar to yours, and learned a lot about what to buy and what not to buy:


In a nutshell, I would recommend avoiding lights that have built in fans. They are prone to mechanical failure. Try to find a panel LED that has a detachable driver.

What's your budget?

Not sure that 1 light is enough for a 2x4. I bought some blurples when I was having heat issues and I had 2 of the 1200s in my 2x4.

My friend uses a 2000w in a 2x4 and grows 2 autos at a time.

Also none of these watts are correct. The 1200s pull 220 on full spectrum. The 2000 pulls 400 on full.

So the 600 probably pulls round 100 watts from the wall.

The "2000" watt blurple will work if you want go cheep.

how tall is a 4 x 2?? my 1m x 1m is 2m tall

I think the tent is 80” tall. I may just find a kit that includes everything. My problem is that I travel and will be away for up to a week. I need to find a lighting solution that does not generate enough heat to require cooling / fire hazard if cooling fan fails while I’m away

Do NOT buy that light. It only puts out approximately 135 watts.

For the same price, you could buy a Mars Hydro


15 extra watts of power, and WAYYYY better light spectrum.

1 or 2 plants you could get away with 2 mars hydro ts600's or a larger wattage mars light, i cant speak for other leds yet

allways look for the actual electrical draw on it to get the true wattage. the ts600's are 104watts each draw from the wall

How can you be certain the cooling fans aren't a fire hazard? Get a light that passes all the normal security standards and you should be okay. I think most come with an automatic shutoff if the reach a certain temperature

For $149 you can get a real 600 watt Vivosun HID. Digital ballast, HPS/MH compatible, with a sealed hood. I would not buy that light.

If fans going out is an issue, why would you buy lights that have fans too. Sorry, but that logic doesn't make any sense to me.

I don’t know I’m a noob . I figured all fans were required to have internal overloads or overload protection per NEC. Lights typically don’t unless the hoods have an over temp protection that protects the light. But I dono

I agree leaving a grow operation unattended is never advisable. From what I've researched, panel LEDs don't generate dangerous amounts of heat though, OP. I was concerned you might get the idea that fans like that are needed in all types of lights.

I just had an idea OP. What about splurging for a surveillance camera that feeds video to your cell phone? Peace of mind while you travel.

In my opinion, only the old school out of date shit needs fans to cool it if you're talking LED. That's why I asked what your budget is. There's a ton of options depending on what you want to spend.

I really didn’t notice that light actually had a fan until it was mentioned. I was gonna go led and just run vent fans
