Don't worry about it, bro. I had the same thing. I think it's just a buildup of dirt and clay from your hands and hydroton. It washes out easily, just hot water.

fox farm nutes.
I'm not familiar with using Fox Farm, but the GH 3-part will cause your res and roots to turn brown with a film that starts nutrient lockout if you don't get it mixed well and circulated well in the res. Make sure that you mix the res well and have good water circulation.

You're gonna have to change the res at some point, anyway, so just wash it out on your next res change.
