Greenhouse Ideas

Hi guys!

I live in a legal state and am thinking about doing a greenhouse for next year's grow. I always do things by the book, so growing outside is a no- no, unless in a completely separate, secured structure, i.e. a greenhouse. Secure means that, if it has an open window, it is no longer secure. It also must have a sturdy door and lock.

SO, that leaves me with the following: obviously plastic and PVC ribbed frame is out, though I love the low cost of materials. I must have opaque glazing and a simple propped window for vents wont work... I will need to install a window fan with temp sensor for ventilation I think.. remember no open windows someone could get in but a vent fan is OK.


Im limited to 6 flowering plants, but really only need a few so space doesn't need to be huge. My yard is pretty small too. I would probably also use it to start veggie seeds for the garden. I am trying to minimize cost while making a sturdy, easy to assemble structure.

Does anybody have suggestions for a good kit or plans they've used?

All kinds of small greenhouses available. Farmtek, etc.. I've got a 30 x 48 from oregonvalleygreenhouse.
You can also do a pretty sturdy DIY PVC hoop house! There are videos on YouTube to show you how to do it.

It's way too small. I have 5 plants in a 10x40 and it's marginal. these pics are from some weeks ago and I they are much bigger now.

You want windows you can open for max air flow. Not sure why you think an open window cannot be secure. Easy as adding bars or wire mesh.

Just built this last night l, cost me $70 bucks. It's like a teepee. I have the 4x4x10 in 5 gal buckets filled with insta concrete. It's movable and and can build apon it next year. This was mainly to keep the rain off that will be coming.

I hear ya man and trust me Id love a simple setup like that but in my neighborhood and state it would be against our laws... would have to be sturdy and locked

For the money.. that's really small. Maybe OK for growing auto flowering plants.

There's a place called creative shelters online that sell fittings to make your own three times as big if you want for half the price.

So....... i came home to this, I knew this would happen when I was stuck at work with all this wind. I was going to reinforce it tonight but it was too late. No major damage, I had to repair a branch though.

I won't get into the construction of a greenhouse since designs and prefabricated structures are prevalent.

However, I will suggest a solar panel setup with some LED's along the top of the greenhouse to bump the light a bit. This would help on cloudy/rainy days if you have a large enough battery or wired into the grid.

In essence, you'll never have a cloudy day and on sunny days you are juic'n.
