i have also heard alot about using a green led for night gardening.. i am sure that some of us don't have the luxury of always being available when our lights are off.. i know that i used to work the graveyard shift and was also looking into this ... i am positive that i have read multiple times about using a green light in maybe high times or skunk or both, and they say that it is kool to do as the green light is just reflected off of the plants and will not upset the dark period..

There is much debate about green light. For sure no light at all is better. I would never work on the grow at dark unless it was some kind of emergency. The green leds are different than just a bulb with green colored glass. I would not trust the latter. Green leds are not so easy to find.

I keep a green bulb in the socket above my grow. I have done this for years with no detrimental effects. It is a small wattage bulb.
I find that there are times you need to go into your room when the lights are off - I top off my reservoirs just before the light cycle starts as their first feeding is just after the cycle starts. I also turn on the AC`s to lower the temp a little before the lights come on.
I do limit the time the green is on, as I have read that extended use is not recommended

I used a green fluorescent "party" light from wal mart during the darkness to show off the girls to guest and for doing work. its just after a while i found it easier to work during the (hps)light hours.

Im day 62 into flowering and it seems to be all sensimilla. I had no hermies from my experience.

I'm not chastising anyone who uses green light of either kind. But let's remember that it is very possible you could have used a regular white bulb and also had no hermies. Different strains seem to have different sensitivities to stress and some of it is just luck. There is no clear line marked ok on one side and not ok on the other. It's the nature of risk that you can do something 9 times and get away with it then get burned on the 10th.
