One thing that i quickly learned about this side is that a majority of the the site dislikes GHS, but with the low prices for seeds and the outrageous promises that are detailed in the description, how can a newb NOT want to give them a try. I searched for specific journals of the lower cost GHS seeds to get a realistic description of what it was like to grow one, but i couldnt find any. Perhaps i could have searched harder, so pardon me if there are some lost in the back pages of this sites archives. But i figured, why not just try it out for myself, and create a very descriptive journal so that others in my situation can have something concrete to look back on.

Let me state this early, i am not a professional grower, i am by all means still a beginner, i have had 7 runs at growing.. two of them have been successful, all with CFL lighting, although this time around i have upgraded my equiptment emmensely.

The first successful grow was bagseed - garnished 5grams of dried, lovely couch locking goodness

the second successful grow was also bagseed - garnished 72grams (due to newb error, i didnt dry it like it should have been dried, and encountered some mold problems after the fact.. this is a learning experience, so im not mad in the least bit.

all the previous failures, where either the female plants being destroyed due to falling lights, or grows resulting in ALL males..

now that u know alittle about me.. let me tell you about the grow..

- the grow space will be a 64in x 36in x 20in commerical tent (purchased and set up)
- 400w magnetic ballast (purchased and set up)
- 400w MH for veg (purchased and set up)
- 400w HPS for flower (purchased)
- Timer (purchased and set up)
*ducting, carbon filter and inline fan still need to be purchased, im still searching for the best ones to fit my needs*

pot size will be 6" pots (.25 gallon) to start off, and then 12" pots (5 gallon) to be transferred 1 week prior to flower

Soil: as of now i will be using Miracle Grow- moisture control potting mix to start it off. I am currently looking for something better, but there are no nurseries in my area, so i will most likely have to order something off line, i should have something better ready by the time the transplant takes place.

Nutrients: what i have available at the moment is Shultz Advance Nutients 10-15-10 and MG Bloom Booster 10-52-10 (like the soil, i will be searching for better stuff, but that is what i have to work with at the moment.

my first order from the tude, i recieved the following seeds

1 GHS Kalashnikova fem
1 GHS Moby Dick fem
1 GHS Super Lemon Haze fem
1 GHS Super Bud fem
1 GHS Lady Burn 1974 fem
1 CH99 Critacal Mass 33 fem
1 G13 Sour Candy fem
1 Barneys Farm Pineapple Chunk fem
2 DNA L.A. Confidential reg

I am growing the GHS seeds first, because i like i said, i am a noob, and i would like to work out my kinks as a grower on these seeds instead of the cooler ones. Hope you all enjoy this journal. If anyone has followed my other failed journals, you will know that i update almost daily..lol. with lots of pictures.

Tonight i will be germinating the seeds using the paper towel trick. And they should be popped by tommorow afternoon.

im in, i like the greenhouse seeds grow videos, and the strain hunter stuff.

people become snobs and avoid stuff when it seems commercial, i have never used them but wanna get some of there white widow coz you can get pick and mix from attitude.

note on the miracle grow soil, dont water it too much cause everytime you do, the nutrients are released and its easy to get nute burn

also ive got 2 barneys pineapple chunk on the go at the minute 4 weeks into veg, switching to 12/12 on monday check it out https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/484971-600w-pineapple-chunk-blue-hash.html

good luck:lol:

Well.. time to start the germination process

said seeds have been placed in one plastic cup each and left to soak for about 4 hours... afterwards, (around midnight) i will use the paper towel method in said cups to get them to pop....

Be careful with the MG 10-52-10.
Use it too much and you'll get mg lockout pretty quickly.

i did some searching online and i found a HYDROPHONIC STORE about 30-40 minutes out the way... soo...... obviously im going there tommorow... they have a website, i have been looking at it and like a dream come true.. they have in stock EVERYTHING that people have been talking about on here.. (as far as nutrients) so.. its safe to say that i WONT be using miracle grow ANYTHING. but i do need your help.. with so many choices... i dont know what to decide on

medium choices:

Fox Farm O.F.
Amazon Bloom
Big Daddy organic coco
Happy Frog Potting Soil
Fox Farm Light Warrior
Fox Farm Organic planting mix
Sunshine Organic planting mix
Black Gold organic

and just about every single nutrient you cant think of..

now.. mind you.. where i live it is freezing cold around this time... so i cant really make the Subcool Supersoil and "let it cook"... so what would you all suggest is the best alternative (if u care you share).. i will also post this in a seperate thread to garnish as many responses as possible

Can't really help you on those mediums, I never used them. I've been good with regular potting soil and perlite when I do soil, but my Kalashnikova's are in dwc. There doing great in dwc. I also use Gh flora bloom and micro for nutes. Using the lucas formula with these nutes have worked for me. Just be careful starting with them I burnt my plants really bad, but now they love it.

Know what you want to purchase before going to a hydro store.
Try not to get caught up in the nutrient hype.
Just 'cause there's a pot leaf and swirlly colors on the packaging don't mean it's any better than the $7 or $8 stuff.

they will try to get you to buy an expensive pest solution. I got a 3 in 1 at wal mart for five dollars that works awesome, so like rj said don't get caught up in the hype.

also let me know when you start the ladyburn, I got one going now and it's my best plant, but you can't find to much on it anywhere. Thanks in advance.

well.. im back from my Hydro store and might i say it was the most pleasant shopping experience i have ever had!!!!

i was in there prepared to spend $200 on nutes... the guy at the store saw that i was indecisive and sat down and had a hour conversion ( for 20 minutes we were both using VERY VAGUE wording, until finally i broke the tension and asked the innocent question "what if i want to make some type of super soil?" then he INSTANTLY exploded with happiness about what i would need and what he was using for his... he even told me about all the cool nutes in the back that he doesnt put on the shelves because it would make the situation too "hot"... he didnt try to over sell ANYTHING...im going back to buy my fan and filter combo next check ($150)... i would have bought it then... but he said i didnt need it yet since it was the early stages of everything, there was no smell and i could just leave the tent open if the light didnt bother me (which it doesnt).. so i happily left and spent my remaining money on RL polo beanie hats (2)

anyways.. i ended up getting some Roots Organic "original" soil.. he told me it was the closest thing to the subcool super soil for a beginner and all i had to do was water.. he steered me away from all the fancy nutes that were on display, and said to come back when i was ready to go into flower... and he also stated that if i was gonna use any chemicals that it should be "gravity"..

so.. i walked out with a 1.5 cubic ft bag of Roots Organic soil... 6" pots, and he gave me a bag of green bean seeds "just incase i needed to explain why i got all this soil"

also... the Greenhouse Seeds didnt crack yet... hmmmf.. maybe tommorow then

they have each grown thier "tails" and i have planted them in the gallon planters. Each planter is labeled with the seed type on it and placed into the grow tent. i have a 8" house fan blowing through the bottom right vent of the grow tent and the 400w MH light approximately 3.5 feet above the plants until they break ground.. the lights AND fan are set on a 20/4 timer

the night temps of the tent are at 60 degrees, and the hottest the tent gets is around 90 degrees F.. im going to have to leave the tent open until i get my inline fan because i am sure those temps are too high,

in the next two weeks, i will have the inline fan (black friday is coming up so ill be spending my money on a 55in tv., another years subscription to xbox live and the new call of duty (priorities first).. maybe NEXT paycheck ill have some spare for a fan..lol...

Day 3 : since first set of leaves

i had went away for Thanksgiving, luckily everything was on a timer, and life worked out well.. Both are mutant plants in one form or another... the Super bud had 3 cotyl (spelling) leaves but all other growth seems normal.. and the Kalashnikova has 3 of every set of leaves... (FUCKING AWESOME)... i hope that means i gonna get some GOOD yeilds

even early on, the Kalash has some signs of discoloration, i dont know if that is how the plant is, or if the Roots Organic soil is a little too hot for it.. im going to continue has normal and hope everything regulates itself

i havent figured out how to schedule the waterings for this soil.. its ALOT harder to tell using this 400w mh and this Roots Organics soil as opposed to CFLS and Miracle Grow Moisture Control. .. the drainage in the roots is CRAZY.. i cant tell if the soil has enough water or if its just meant to drain like it is... anyways..

for some reason, photobucket isnt working for me.. so ill upload pics when i get to work tommorow.

pictures:

THE TENT: 64x36x20 it SORTA looks like the portable closet that is in my basement that is right next to it

ghetto hookup until i get a inline fan.. .. i have a 6" house fan blowing in the passive vent that i have taped up.

taped up vent

even with the ghetto fan, the temps in the tent were in the mid 90's, when the tent was zipped all the way up.. so i added a second fan and angled it blow upwards to help move air in the tent and through the exhast tubing that i put in... now the temps in the tent are reading at 80 F

the temp in the tent when everything is zipped up

this is the super bud...

this is the mutant Kalashnikova (yippy)

can someone recommend me a good clip on fan for my tent.. i wanna get the "ghetto hookup" out of there..lol..

i dont have a pic of it, but i have a 4" exhaust tube snaking down from the top port, and the angled fan is helping to push air through the tube so it can exit..

i dont know how im going to work it when i install the carbon filter and inline fan.. i just didnt put too much thought into the tent configuration over all.. and im working as i go along.

Day 5 (veg)

seeing this is my first time in a tent with mh/hps AND with this new soil im having a hard time figuring out a watering schedule.. this RO doesnt seem to hold water like my miracle grow did.. i think im going to try to water every 3 days and just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Day 6 (veg)

i guess it would make sense to post pictures every 7th day, so the growth can be noticeable. so therefore ill post pictures tommorow

I purchased a Humidifier this morning, because my tent humidity is around 30-40 and from research i see that it needs to be around 60-70... although i have grown previously in conditions of 30-40.. i want to at least TRY to recommended condition so i can see if it makes a difference

and i lowered my lights to 17" from the plants... (originally they were about 26-30")

its the holiday season, and i have to get my car fixed, so i wont be splurging on this grow for a while..lol.. hopefully i have enough to last me at least for the month of veg.

Day 11 (veg)

these pics are from Day 10.

super bud (secondary growth : note. on my previous cfl grows, this is non existant till i force into flower..lol.. so im already in love with 400MH)

super bud

Kalashnikova - note the discoloration

the growth of this plant is AMAZING.. because of its mutation it gets a EXTRA shoot of growth on EVERY node.. therefore i can see already that im going to have sooooooo many more colas... i can also understand why people say that it doesnt like any cropping of any sort... the genetics are already on full power...
