I'm in a zone 5b and i do the same thing but break them down into single branches if possible and ill trimoff fan leaves. I have a long drive so i like to use contractor garbage bags to keep the plants in while in the hockey bag. Keeps the smell down a tiny bit.In the Northeast we deal with a lot of mold and wet conditions during harvest, so Ive almost always done it late in the night (post sundown).
Obviously depends on how far away the site is etc, but Ive always found cutting the tree at the base and either using a hockey/gym bag or if massive plant use mesh bags or a laundry bag. It allows airflow and doesnt have as much surface area contact with the plant. Happy growing!
Looks fantastic! Great idea btw, especially makes sense if it's a drive and a decent distance away. ^^^^^This. If it's a big plant, a small tarp or a heavy bed sheet will work to roll it up in. Smaller plants, or staggered harvest go into big paper shopping bags.I use a tarp !
